Moments for Greatness

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
This feels like one of those moments in life

One of those opportunities

Meant to be a time for greatness

One of those times that's meant to be memorialized

in words or pictures or even an interpretive dance

A true artist knows when one of these moments comes along

It all comes down to what he chooses to do with it

Does he stay awake until four in the morning

Waiting for the words to come to him

Or for the angle to be just right?

Or does he drift off to sleep with the setting sun?

Does he focus on his place within the story?

Or does he watch through a window

Or listen to someone else's words

It's what he says or does in these moments that matters

This is one of those rare moments

Like when Elvis died or when Michael Phelps

Won eight gold medals

Important because it was unexpected

Or because it mattered to someone

And someone was there to memorialized those things

Maybe this is my chance to tell the world how I feel

One of those moments when I can express myself

And hopefully show a little bit of the greatness

I hope is in side of me as well

This just feels like one of those moments in life

One of those chances for immortality

Will the words come to me

Or will they fade away before they touch my tongue

Or reach my pen

Will they flow from my heart

Or will they be trapped forever inside the darkness

I have read the words of others, viewed pictures

And watched the dance. I've seen others moments for greatness

I knew what it was; I understood

I always hoped I would have moments like that as well

Though I never really expected it to be so

And this feels like one of my moments now

This is one of my chances for immortality

My time to become something in the eyes of the world
