Moments of Motherhood: Poopy Business

Tfurby
We all have our moments of motherhood, you know the times I am talking about, those little moments that as a parent we will never forget. A lot of these will revolve around your baby's first steps, first tooth, first words and so on. However, parenthood has it's other memorable moments. The messier side of being a parent involves 2:00 a.m. feedings and diaper changes. This is where the poopy business of motherhood comes in.

When my son was still a newborn, the diaper changes were not so bad. You still had to watch for those moments of motherhood where you get a little pee in the face, or you have to watch little hands exploring, when the diaper comes off and occasionally coming into contact with a poopy mess.

Where the diaper changes become more challenging is when your child gets a little older and discovers that he can remove the diaper himself! My son discovered this wonderful accomplishment, at about 12 months of age, early one morning, before I awoke. Boy did he have fun!

I awoke early one morning, I went to my sons nursery to see if he was awake and that is when I received the shock of my life. This was definitely one of those memorable moments of motherhood. My son had removed his poopy diaper and proceeded to paint the nursery walls! At least he was still too young to escape the confines of his baby bed or things might have been worse.

There was poop on the walls, poop on the baby bed rails, poop on the sheets, poop in my son's hair, poop on his face, his clothes, poop was everywhere! My son was ecstatic, he thought that he had found a wonderful new game. I however was not so enthusiastic. The first thing that you want to see in the morning, is not a poop covered son and nursery.

All you can say about a situation like that is, poop happens. As a parent and a mother you grow accustomed to a little poopy business! Then you file it away as one of the moments of motherhood.

I HAVE BEEN THERE! My daughter learned to do this on Christmas Day when she was 2. I left her in my mother's care and went on a short visit, came back to find the crib area and a brand new doll smeared with diaper contents! God, it was awful!
