Momentum

Donna Cavanagh
I had a rhythm; I could not fail
Everything was going as I had planned
Momentum was pushing me where I wanted to go
My life ran smoothly under its command

But then a snag knocked me to the ground
A snag that sapped my determination and drive
It stole my heart and crippled my spirit
I wondered if I still had the will to survive

But momentum is a funny thing
It returns when your spirit has abandoned your soul
The smallest accomplishment adds hope to a life
And momentum takes over and puts you back in control

We all go through dark periods
When we think maybe we have reached our end
But momentum shows up to give us another round of courage
And the most difficult challenges we are able to transcend

I know the pain that many still face
I know no magic spell can just wipe it away
But know that your momentum is not dead; it will return
And inspire you to grab onto the promise of each new day
