My husband and I had been debating on when to tell the younger kids about my pregnancy. I was nearly eight months and they still didn't know about it. Younger kids don't notice things like this or so I had thought.....
One night after I took a shower, I went into the living room and I must have fallen asleep because my oldest daughter woke me up at around six in the morning and asked me why my stomach was so big. I had fallen asleep in a robe that showed my protruding belly but usually don't wear this robe until the kids are tucked away in bed.
I ignored her and told her to go back to bed. Thinking that I had dreamt it, I asked her around eight in the morning if she had asked why my belly was so big. She said that she was just curious since it grew over night. I ignored the question with a bowl of cereal for her to eat.
My daughter Autumn is 6 years old and a very curious girl. She makes Curious George look like an innocent little monkey.
At around 4 in the evening my husband came home and the question rose again but this time it was my 4 year old, Chrissy, who was asking all the questions. Christina is a little bit of a busy body and wants to know everything about anything and she had apparently heard her sister asking me questions that morning but realized that I was dodging the question. Her theory is, when mom dodges the question all you gotta do is ask dear old step-dad.
My husband laughed when I had explained to him what had happened and so he told them that I swallowed a watermelon seed. Chrissy's eyes became as huge as a baseball and she started to gasp when I told her that it wasn't true that I was pregnant with their baby brother.
I later heard Chrissy telling Autumn to watch it next time she swallows those watermelon seeds or she will end up pregnant with a baby brother like momma did.
