Momma's Roses

A Mother's Day Tribute

Lee Hansen
Even though her body was constantly wracked with pain she loved her rosebushes and other colorful flowers. She would lovingly handle each delicate petal and enjoy the specialness of each flower that she planted or touched. This was so very therapeutic and relaxing for her.

As a result of her patience and perseverance, her labor yielded good results. She loved the feel of the earth between her fragile fingers. Her love of the earth extended also to her vegetable garden. When Momma was in her garden it was as if all was well in her world. It was as if pain became a stranger for that portion of time.

I remember her painstakingly and gingerly removing the ripened vegetables from her backyard garden. Vegetables such as collard greens, string beans, cabbage and tomatoes were just some of the benefits we as a family enjoyed eating with much delight. She, like the Proverbs 31 woman worked willingly with her hands. It was an honor for her to take care of her family.

This weekend I will plant some flowers in honor and tribute to my mother. Although by no means gifted with a green-thumb, it will serve as a reminder of her love to her family. And when I look in my backyard, I will always feel her presence with me.

Although I miss her so very much, she is at peace and rest. You see she's now in the company of the Master Gardener, Jesus Christ. And we all know what beauty He has created.

Happy Mother's Day, Momma. You may be physically gone but you remain forever close to my heart.
