Mommy Makeover Mother's Day Craft
Multi-tasking Mini-moms Are Super Crafts, Bulletin Boards Ideas and Mother's Day Gifts
Age appropriateness: This Mother's Day craft is appropriate for ages 3 to 10, although teachers may need to precut fabric for preschooler.
Craft cost: This is an inexpensive Mother's Day craft. The main expense is the people cutouts, which often come in 24 packs for under $12.00, and of course you could also make your own. The remainder of the materials are common art supplies and scraps.
Time involved: Because this craft is very open ended, the amount of time it takes will vary according to age and interest. Preschoolers may be done in less than 10 minutes while preteens may work on personalizing their Mommy Makeover craft for 45 minutes.
Materials:
Paper people cutouts
Pencils
Markers
Fabric
Scissors
Glue
Optional:
Yarn
Buttons
At some point in their short student careers, most young children have made a "mini-me" with a paper person cutout. For this craft they will make a "mini-mom" or a paper doll version of a special lady in their lives.
In the Mommy Makeover Mother's Day craft, kids can enjoy doing things for mom that they'd like to do for her in real life like paint her nails, style her hair or make her a new blouse.
You can purchase paper people cutouts in educational retail or online stores.
Often they come in 24 packs ranging in size from 7 to 16 inches tall. The best options come in a variety of skin tones. If not, be sure to offer art supplies that would allow little crafters to create their mom's skin tone.
Directions:
Offer a variety of materials and leave the how and where to use them open-ended. Some may use fabric for clothes and others may will color a dress and then cut out fabric eyes. One may use buttons as buttons while others may use them as eyes or earrings. Leaving this Mother's Day craft open-ended encourages creativity and ensures that every "mom" can be unique.
Encourage students to start by creating the facial features first. If they don't like the results they can take advantage of a super easy makeover idea and simply turn the paper cutout over and begin again.
Consider giving the Mother's Day crafts a place of honor on your May bulletin board before sending them home to their real life likeness.
