Mom's Best Naturals Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal Review

Great Taste, Good Ingredients, and Nice Price

My son and I both enjoy a good bowl of oatmeal. I have never mastered making excellent homemade oatmeal, or at least never as good as the kind I had at home, and this is partly because when ever I am making breakfast I am usually in a hurry. For this reason I like to get instant oatmeal from time to time. My son enjoys this kind a lot because instant oatmeal often comes in a variety of fun and tasty flavors. Unfortunately, I often find that such fun and tasty flavors come with sugar, food coloring, and artificial flavoring. For this reason when I came across Mom's Best Naturals Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal I thought that I had found a healthy oatmeal that was fun and tasty.

The ingredients in this instant oatmeal were whole grain rolled oats, sugar, flaxseed, salt, natural flavor, guar gum, and caramel color. I thought that these were not too bad, although I wondered how much sugar content was going to be with sugar listed as the second ingredient. Still, I was happy to find that there was not any artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors, hydrogenated oil, or high fructose corn syrup. It was not exactly oats and water but it was a lot better then so many of the other instant oatmeal that is available. In the past I had gotten Maple Spice and Apple Cinnamon Organic Instant Oatmeal from Village Farm and from what I remember they had slightly better ingredients. However, to be fair that oatmeal had organic ingredients so of course it was better. I was still curious about the nutrition facts for the Mom's Best Naturals Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal.

The nutrition facts of Mom's Best Naturals Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal included 160 calories with 20 calories from fat, 240 milligrams of sodium, 110 milligrams of potassium, and 32 grams of carbohydrates. Additionally, in a serving size of the instant oatmeal there was 3 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, and 13 grams of sugars. To be honest the nutrition facts were pretty good, they did not have more sugar than what I normally see with the organic instant oatmeal I mentioned before. Additionally, there was 2% listed for calcium, iron was listed with 8%, and phosphorus and magnesium were both listed 15%. In general I was very pleased with the nutrition facts and overall they were very similar to Maple Spice and Apple Cinnamon Organic Instant Oatmeal from Village Farm. Although, the instant oatmeal from Mom's Best Naturals had more than half as less calories from fat, listed potassium, and had two more grams of carbohydrates and forty more milligrams of sodium.

With all of this considered I was happy to give this oatmeal to my son, and he enjoyed its great flavor that did not taste artificial or anything like that. The box went rather quickly since there was only five packets in the small box, but it was only a couple of dollars. With this in mind it is definitely cheaper to make oatmeal from scratch. This is what I decided to do, but I am not opposed to to getting the Mom's Best Naturals Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal. However, if at all possible in the future I would like to get organic instant oatmeal if I am buying any instant oatmeal. In the mean time though, I will go back to making oatmeal from scratch. It was certainly nice having this instant oatmeal on hand and I am glad that I got it. With no artificial preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavors, hydrogenated oil, and no high fructose corn syrup, and a great flavor I would recommend for anyone to try it. Plus when it is on sale, it is a reasonable price.
