Mom's Hugs

Phylis
I remember her wrapping her arms around me so tight
That I feared she'd squeeze the life from me.
As though she couldn't get close enough,
Or was afraid that I'd break free.

Her hugs were as fierce and unrelenting as her love,
And I, though trapped, didn't struggle to flee,
Knowing that soon she'd stroke my hair,
And whisper quietly to soothe me.
