Monday Night Football is the Game of the Week: New England Patriots at New Orleans Saints

Wow! What a game for Monday Night Football! I don't see anyway possible that the schedule makers for the NFL looked into a crystal ball and saw what they were creating for this Monday night. It's so good that I will even look past the fact that in the weeks that remain the Buffalo Bills play not once, but twice on Monday night.

The New England Patriots are right where most people would expect them to be; on top of the AFC North division. However, I'm not sure how many people thought they would be the one .500 or better team in the division. They just barely missed putting the first loss on record for the Indianapolis Colts this season and are looking for a small bit of revenge. They are thrust back into the spotlight Monday night as they try to become the first team to defeat the Saints this season. Isn't it strange to see them on the other side of this situation such a short time removed from their historic season?

The New Orleans Saints are 10-0? I just can't get over how shocking that fact is. It's not terribly surprising to find the Saints are having a good season. They have been a sleeper pick in the last couple of seasons by some experts to peak their way into the playoffs. I can't remember one time that any of these experts ever predicted they could win the Super Bowl. I think it is fair to say that this year the New Orleans Saints could very well become Super Bowl Champions. As much as I like and respect New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, I'm still going to have to say that I don't think they are going to be holding up the Vince Lombardi trophy at the end of the season. I also don't see an undefeated regular season in their future either. Whether they fall Monday night to the Patriots, or later in the season to a team like the Cowboys or Falcons, I think it will happen. The Saints are a great team, but their competition hasn't exactly been stellar this season. After ten games, they have only played one team that would currently be in the playoffs if the season ended today. There is going to be a game or two this regular season where the New Orleans defense doesn't force turnovers and struggles to make the big stops the team needs. The main question is will it be Monday night on ESPN versus the New England Patriots?

I have a feeling the Saints might be in trouble in this one, but I like them a lot more than I do the Patriots so I will be pulling for them. It's hard not to pull for a guy like Drew Brees. Let's all say thank you to the NFL for nailing the Monday night match up this week.
