Monday Ramblings from the Byrd Nest

Ramblings and Rants for March 15, 2010

Pattie Byrd
Well, as we can see, I'm running a little behind schedule today, I think because the time changed, and my body is still on the old time. St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and apparently March Madness is raising fever all around the neighborhood. I really don't know anything about March Madness, but I've just heard people talking about it.

I've always wondered why people purchase checks with cute little pictures of animals and such on them. I mean, isn't it enough that you're giving someone your money? If there's a cute little kitten on your check, then it makes it seem like you can't wait to give that money away. If I were going to pay for something with a check with a picture, then it would probably be something with a snarling grinch on it.

Don't you hate it when you go to the store and when you get home, you realize that you've left a bag behind? That happened to me recently, and as I was unpacking the bags, I noticed that the cookies I had purchased weren't there. Neither were the other things that were going to adorn my table that evening. So I had to make a return trip. I don't know which frustrated me more, the fact that I was aggravated at myself for leaving it in the first place, or the cute little cashier's smile that implied age had something to do with it.

Speaking of age, don't you wish you could get it through drug abusers' heads that if they'll just wait a few years they won't need drugs? I mean, when they get a little older, they'll find that everything you do is like moving in slow motion, there's often lights flashing in front of your eyes, and a lot of the time your mind's in a haze anyway. Who needs to pay for that?

Placed an order the other day with a large company. I didn't receive it, so I checked that handy Fed-Ex tracking number on my email, and I was informed they had left it on my front porch several days prior. After checking both front and back porches, I told Ms. Fed-Ex that if they were delivered, they had disappeared or been left on someone else's front porch. She informed me that the packages did not require a signature, something that disturbed me since I had prepaid for this merchandise, but that she would check with the driver. Well, of course, this took several days, and finally, Ms. Fed-Ex told me to call the company, explain the situation and they would file a lost claim. Apparently, this happens a lot. The company obliged and sent them again. Now, if you were the company, don't you think they might want to require a signature the second time they were shipped? You guessed it, Mr. Fed-Ex left them on the porch again, and I stumbled over them when I went out the door. No wonder big business has so much trouble.

Everyone have a fun week, wear something green on Wednesday, and thanks for reading.

Wal-Mart is notorious for not giving you all of your items. Thank goodness they will honor the receipt anyway.

I stopped purchasing fancy checks a couple years ago when I realized no one but me really cared if there was a lighthouse on their payment. And I hate those rotating bag thingies at the checkouts -- it should be the cashier's job to make sure you have not left a bag! And I totally agree with the FedEx thing - he never stops for a sig, he just rings the doorbell and jogs off in those cute little shorts! And the only thing green on me on St. Patty's Day was my face and what came out of me as I spent two miserable days in the bathroom with some kind of Montezuma's revenge!

Good ramblings! I hate getting home from shopping to discover all your items aren't there!

I don't like it when they leave stuff at the door. I'm always afraid it'll disappear and I'll have to go through all that hassle...

Leaving a bag at the grocery is nuthin Pattie. Don't sweat it. Bout a year ago I went to Sam's Club, bought a ton of stuff, and the cashier stuck the uber huge package of TP on the bottom rack, and as I never put anything there, I loaded up and split. Needless to say, I realized and ran right back to the store, but the TP was long gone. Hope they poked a finger thru the tissue - SOB's - serves 'em right!

I've left a bag of groceries at the store before, and I'm still "young." At least I don't use drugs...

Love you Monday Ramblings on Tuesday morning:) We bought a carpet cleaner, a very expensive one for us, and the UPS guy left it on our next door neighbor's porch. We were on the phone trying to track it down when she rang our doorbell. Thank God for honest neighbors!
