Monet's Water Lilies Themed Wedding Reception

Michele Arrowsmith- Rowe
We tend to get our wedding theme inspirations from destinations, color schemes, time periods, interior design, fashion, architecture, and holidays. Why not find another "out of the box" source to come up with a unique themed wedding? How about a piece of art? Yes, art! Well, with this wedding theme in mind, let's use Monet's Water Lilies. From color scheme, location, invitation, table design, favor, entertainment, food and beverage, and cake - - here are some ideas great for any artist!

Need color scheme ideas for this theme? For this theme, let's get our color inspiration from Monet's paintings. When viewing his art, I found hues of green, blue, pink, orange, brown, and yellow. For this demonstration, let's narrow this design down to celadon green, periwinkle blue, and dusty rose.

Need location ideas? How about a garden with a Japanese bridge and pond, as a focal point? Don't have a Japanese garden in your area? What if it's too cold for an outdoor wedding? Find a banquet facility or a museum with a neutral color scheme and add themed elements to the room!

Need invitation ideas? Zazzle.com has many choices for this theme! My favorites are: Claude Monet announcements, Monet Water Lilies invite, and Water Lilies 1. And before you mail your invitation, don't forget to add a lily pad flower postage stamp!

Need décor ideas? Set up all round tables in the space. Add long celadon crinkle taffeta table clothes to the tables. Then, layer the table cloths with a celadon, rose garden, taffeta overlay. Fold a celadon Lamoure napkin in a water lily napkin fold. Place a lily pad plate at each setting, set the folded napkin in the middle of each plate, and add a pink water lily flower to the middle of the napkin design. Add a natural Chiavari chair with a celadon, Lamoure chair pad, to each place setting. Attach a pink water lily flower and a celadon, Lamoure chair band, with a periwinkle satin ribbon, to the back of the chair. To add variety, instead of monotony, mix and match the centerpieces! First, paint a terracotta bowl celadon green. Next, glue moss to the bowl. Then, fill the bowls with water. Finally, add one simple lily pad with a pink flower. Place this centerpiece on ever other table. Paint the second centerpiece's terracotta pot celadon. Next, fill the pots with periwinkles, roses, lavender, gerberas, tulips, and/or hydrangeas, in the same color scheme. Place these centerpieces on tables throughout the room. If your budget allows, add potted plants throughout the space, creating a garden atmosphere. If this is an evening event, add many celadon painted, terracotta votive candle holders, with periwinkle and/or dusty rose candles to the tables. Want to add some whimsy to your tables? Add ceramic or glass frogs to your table design!

Need favor ideas? Select boxed stationary of Monet's, "Lily Pad" or Art! Need other ideas? Fill dusty rose and/or periwinkle fabric bags with gummy frog candy.

Need Entertainment ideas? Hire a string quartet for your cocktail and dinner hour. And if you want to pick up the paste later in the evening - - hire a DJ for the rest of your celebration!

Need menu ideas? Any cuisine will fit this theme! However, if you are having your event in a Japanese garden, why not offer a Japanese inspired menu? Include items such as sushi; miso or egg drop soup; teriyaki chicken and/or beef; tempura; and rice. What to offer your guest to drink? Sake of course! If you don't want to serve hot wine at your wedding, serve a themed martini or cocktail instead! And, rice wine is always a nice touch.

Need cake ideas? A great example is a design by A Cake to Remember. Their Monet's Water Lilies wedding cake is perfect for this theme. The cake's fondant is painted to replicate the painting. Then, for a finishing touch, the designer added three dimensional gum paste lily pads with pink flowers, to each tier.

This Impressionistic painting is perfect for a romantic wedding. From color scheme, location, invitation, table design, favor, entertainment, food and beverage, and cake - - these ideas will help you get started on your artistic theme! And then, when your creation is finished - - the two of you might travel to the closest museum for some more inspiration - - why not the Louvre or Giverny in France? Bon Voyage!

This sounds like a really good idea. It's nice to think outside the box, rather than copy other people's weddings, and come up with an unusual wedding theme.
