One great way to prepare for your goal of working at home is to network with moms you know who are doing the job. Avoid talking about your desire to have a home based business with moms who are able to stay home and not work. They are no doubt wonderful mothers but you don't have the same goals in regards to work. But by networking with successful stay at home moms, they can give you tips on not only where to find work but on the kinds of businesses they had success with and how to navigate the tricky world of working from home.
One of the first changes to how you envisioned working at home is the realization that when you actually start out generating revenue on your own, you may have many work at home plans, not just one. You may focus on an internet business and building a website to make that work but at the same time do some telemarketing, take in babysitting or dog sitting and write articles for the web to make money. This is actually healthy because by having many ventures you are exploring, each of them is an opportunity for something to "take off" and become the work at home career that will make you prosperous and successful.
Next to networking, the richest source of jobs you can do at home is without a doubt the internet. Goggle is a powerful tool for finding online resources for work at home moms. Just "Googling" that phrase "work at home mom" will yield you a wealth of web sites that are designed around the quest you are about to begin. You will find forums and support groups that will help you sort out the working world as it is today for the work at home mother. You will also find dozens of web sites that will give you leads to jobs you can bid on right now to get your at home career moving.
In addition to using "work at home mom" as a search term, some others to Google are freelance, contract work, home based business and virtual assistant. These search terms will lead you to online job boards and online recruitment agencies. Be aware that by beginning to circulate in the online working world, you will also come across more than enough scams and job listings that are designed to get you to "join" a job board for a small annual fee on the promise of many lucrative job offerings that they will send your way.
These job boards do little more than collect the job listings that are already out there on free job forums such as Craiglist and Rent-a-Coder. They compile them into a list and send you that list as though that is a great service. So be a smart internet job searcher and access those sources directly. Before long, you will see the work start flowing your way and your career as a work at home mom will be well underway.
