Part One

Homemade soap, lotions, cosmetics and other body products are fun to make and give you the ability to take charge of the ingredients you use on your skin and hair. Making homemade products serves as a cost-friendly and potentially lucrative way to enjoy your spare time. Whether you're a fan of natural and organic cosmetic s, or you want to find a way to make income at home, making your own bath and body products is one craft endeavor that pays off.

Materials

Purchasing materials for a soap and lotion making craft is an ongoing thing that opens up a whole new world of shopping enjoyment. Websites such as New Directions Aromatics and Wholesale Supplies Plus offer an unyielding plethora of items and ingredients for virtually any beauty craft you want to complete. They even include candle craft ingredients! Soap making materials include the following: lye, vegetable fats and butters, distilled water, essential oils, botanical extracts and preservatives. You will also need a double boiler, assorted glass bowls, stirring sticks, goggles, gloves and soap molds. Alternatively, you can opt for purchasing melt & pour soap bases, eliminating the need for lye.

Lotion making materials include the following: vegetable fats and butters, essential oils, distilled water, emulsifiers and wax. Lotion making is a fine art as well as a science, and some people prefer to make soap as opposed to lotion. I, however, love to make both. Other items for miscellaneous uses included ethyl alcohol, brown sugar, oats and a variety of other items that can be found by searching online shops.

Materials for cosmetics such as eye shadow, foundation and other makeup items comprise of the following ingredients: vegetable fats and butters, wax, mica mineral powder and assorted clay powders such as kaolin, coral and benzoin. Mineral makeup is quite simplistic to create, and cost-friendly in comparison to purchasing expensive commercial mineral cosmetics. Mica mineral powder can be purchased in virtually every hue imaginable making it easy to create your own custom makeup colors and shades.

Making Money

Making real income at home with handmade soaps and other body creations requires practice and patience. It also requires that you take extra care in assuring that your products are safe. For instance, the FDA allows you to send in your products to be tested for human use. You must also make sure that you have proper packaging and tamper-proof seals for your body products. In addition to these guidelines, you must also obtain a business license locally, to make sure you can pay taxes off of the profit you receive from your products.

Making money with homemade soaps, lotions, perfumes and other body products also requires that you find a popular niche. For example, if you're good at making men's aftershave, you can market to men who like to use natural and botanical products. Botanical skincare is popular, so it's easy to find your ideal products to market.
