Recreational Shopping
With time on their hands and a credit card in their wallet, many women engage in shopping as a mental outlet for stress or boredom. This action is destructive and can burn lots of money in a very short time. Debt is a downward spiral to anyone. Shopping can give a mental rush for a short period until the bills arrive. Some women even hide their purchases from husbands. That would indicate a problem exists.
Spending Too Much for Clothing and Shoes
Designer clothing and shoes might give a sense of satisfaction for looking good or being fashionable, but it can totally blow a budget. It is possible to look good on less money. Most companies do not promote on fashion status either.
Competing with the 'Girls'
Women often compete with other women in various areas. Clothing, homes, children's clothing, parties, are just a few of the areas where women feel they must compete with 'the Jones'. It is human to want to be the best, but in difficult financial times, competition is a mistake. Be aware of this thinking and avoid these actions where possible.
Looking for Man to Save You
Consistently spending more than you make and having a huge debt is a detriment to any new relationship or marriage. You might never get married. You might fall in love with a poor man. The man might leave you and stop his financial support. Being dependent on another person for survival is not freedom. In the past women were dependent on men for their survival.
Great gains have been made and the woman of today should be fully self-supporting. Yes, it is easier with someone to help with income, but it is never dependable. Strive to be independent in financial matters.
Being 'Less Than' at Work
Studies have shown that women in the workforce ask for less and expect less than their male co-workers expect. As a result, they get less. There is also the idea that a woman is the secondary income earner in a household and her income is less important than a man's income. This thinking is wrong. Many women are raising families alone and the sole support of the family.
A woman's income is just as important as a man's and she should expect equal pay. Asking for a raise and a better position may not be 'feminine' but in these financially difficult times, it is important. Respect and reward for hard work is better than playing the role that is usually expected of a woman in the workplace.
Not engaging in bad money habits is a reflection of the independence gained the woman of today. Making wise money decisions and being fully self-supporting is freedom.
