Money Saving Laundry Tips for Apartment and Dorm Room Dwellers

A Wonderful Way to Wash Clothes, and More!

Are you tired of spending tens of dollars every week on laundry? Are you sick of driving to the Laundromat, or having to carry those heavy loads of wash from your apartment to your complexes nearest shared laundry room? If so, than boy do I ever have good news for YOU!

I bought this wonderful little portable electric clothes washing machine called, "The Wonder Washer". I purchased it on E-Bay for about $55.00, which included any applicable sales tax, as well as the shipping and handling charges. In addition to the Wonder Washer, I also purchased a 6-serving "Salad Spinner" from Target on-line for about $30.00. Why? To wash, and dry my family's laundry as needed, and inside of our apartment without any quarters, that's why. I'll tell you this; I'm so over laundry rooms, honestly, I am. Now, I both wash, and dry most of my family's laundry right here at home. Yes, it does take a bit of work, but I don't mind at all. I simply wash a little every day, and just like that, I've got clean clothes. It's actually quite easy, really. As a matter of fact, it's sort of fun, too.

So you want to know what exactly the Wonder Washer is, huh? Well, a Wonder Washer is a miniature electric clothes washing machine measuring approximately 18.5" high, and 12.5" wide. It's basically a bucket with a washing machine agitator inside, a lid for the bucket, and the base the bucket sits atop is actually the washer motor. The base includes two wash cycle speeds, as well as a wash cycle timer, making it easier than ever to use. You can only wash a little laundry at a time, such as 2 men's size XL t-shirts, or 4-5 pairs of socks, etc., however I just love it. As for the salad spinner, well, I use that to extract the rinse water from the clean clothes prior to hanging them dry.

Do you want to know how it works? I thought you would. Well then, here we go...

Simply fill the wash bucket to your desired water level, add a little detergent, add the clothes, set the cycle speed and timer, lock the lid on top, then sit back and relax. Once the little load is done, drain the water, refill the bucket, and repeat as above for the rinse. Once the rinse cycle is complete, simply place the wet clothing into the salad spinner, and pull the cord to spin it. Once you've extracted as much water as you feel comfortable with, hang your clothing articles to dry wherever, and however you choose. That's it. It really is that easy.

As for drying the clothes, well if you've successfully extracted the excess water from the clean clothing, you then can either hang your clean laundry on plastic hangers, on a line, or on a drying rack, wherever it is you so choose. Personally, I hang t-shirts upside down on plastic hangers to dry, whereas other items I hang outside on hooks I placed on the ceiling of my outdoor patio. Once our clean clothes are dry I just shake them out as needed to soften them, and viola, they're done.

If for some reason I have a lot of wash to do, I simply place all of the clean, damp clothing articles into a plastic laundry bucket, and throw them all into a large dryer for one cycle. Of course I still have to wash jeans and large bath towels in a large machine, however using my little Wonder Washer in addition to the larger on-site laundry room washer is saving my family ten or more dollars per week. Like I stated earlier, washing this way does take a bit of effort, however I wash one or two little loads each day, which takes only about 30 to 45 minutes from start to completion, and that is something I absolutely CAN handle doing.

Also, because the Wonder Washer is so portable, it's great for camping, dorm rooms, apartments, or where ever you find you have access to clean water, and an electrical outlet. Seriously though, I love my Wonder Washer, and I've no doubt, if you're anything at all like I am, you'll love it too. One more thing; in addition to having clean laundry, I'm also gaining muscle in my biceps. What could be better than getting your clothes clean and a workout at the same time? Now that's what I call successful MULTI-TASKING.
