Many of the pharmacies in my area offer free gift cards for new or transferred prescriptions. You first have to pay for your prescription and then they issue the gift card. You can then turn around and shop in the store or save it to use on the next prescription.
I've found these coupons and used them at Albertson's, CVS, Target, K-mart and United Supermarkets. They often run between $5.00 and $35.00 with the most common amount being $25.00 offered by CVS most often and then Albertson's.
The beauty of these coupons is that they even work with insurance except for Medicaid or any government sponsored plan.
It is wise to check prices before you switch pharmacies just for the sake of a coupon. But I have always found the prices to be comparable.
I do get my maintenance medication through the mail with my insurance plan because I get a 90 day supply for the price I would pay in the pharmacy for a 30 day supply.
But for the inevitable sinus infection or latest bug, these coupons can save the day. They really come in handy when you need diapers or if you're a cokaholic like I am. Just one coupon can keep me in Coke till the next sickness. Of course, if I'd drink more water...
