Money Saving Tips for Graduates

Stacy J. Day
A graduation celebrates a wonderful accomplishment, no matter if it's high school or college that a person is graduating from. If you're going to be graduating soon, chances are you want to make it special. This is very achievable, even if you're on a budget like many people are, and the following tips will help you spend as little as possible while still making your graduation super special.

Party Alternative

Instead of throwing a party, why not invite family and friends out to dinner. By going out to dinner, everyone will pay for their own dinner, and if you're lucky, someone may even offer to pay for your meal as well. If you have a party that you throw yourself, you'll be responsible for providing food, drinks and entertainment. If a friend or a loved one decides to give a party in order to celebrate your accomplishment, you shouldn't worry because then the responsibility is no longer yours, but whoever is hosting the party.

Short But Sweet Trip

If you're like many graduates who want to plan a celebratory trip someplace exotic, consider making it a weekend trip. A weekend trip will cost less than a week or 2-week long trip but will still offer you the opportunity to enjoy yourself just as much as a longer trip.

Free Cap and Gown

If your cap and gown will be provided by your school, then you should definitely take advantage of this fact and not try to buy your own. If you're graduating from college, you should realize that you're actually paying for your cap and gown anyway, so it makes no sense to pay twice. Caps and gowns can be expensive, so you should ignore the need to purchase a custom gown, especially if money is tight. Besides, you want your cap and gown to look similar to everyone else's.

Budget Photographer

Photographers can be quite expensive, so if you would like to hire someone to take pictures during and after your graduation ceremony, why not hire someone who isn't a professional. The quality of the photos doesn't have to be sacrificed and most non professionals will charge a great deal less than a well-known professional. An even better suggestion is to have a friend or relative take photos for absolutely free.

Diploma Cover

For some people, diploma covers are important, while others believe that it's what's inside the cover that is more important. Regardless of how you feel about diploma covers, there are some very attractive yet economical diploma covers, and if you find one for a price that you feel is too expensive, it probably is too expensive and a lower costing one can be found elsewhere.
