Money Saving Tips for Purchase of Organic Foods

Organic Foods May Be Expensive, but Here Are Some Simple Ways to Save Money

Organic food is everywhere these days, and it seems that most households buy at least a few organic products each month. Whether you are pursuing a complete diet of organic food, or just looking to make a few changes in your diet, there are money saving tips you can follow. The benefits of organic food are worth the extra money, but not every house hold has the extra money! Read on for some great ways to save money while feeding yourself and your family organically!

The first tip is to visit local Farmer's Markets. These are usually filled with families that raise their own animals and have very large gardens. Some of the food may not be certified organic by the USDA, but the growing methods the families use are generally organic. Many of these gardeners grow produce as a hobby or for their own families use and sell the extra they have at the market. You can find all sorts of fun items at a Farmer's Market other than the produce too. Local crafters, specialty farmers and even maple syrup farmers often sell their items at a Farmer's Market. Another great benefit of a Farmer's Market is that you are buying directly from the grower. This means lower prices and the good feeling of adding to the grower's profits. If you are looking for some exceptionally fresh produce that is free from chemicals, check out a Farmer's Market near you!

Another great way to find cheaper organic food is to join a food Co-op. A co-op is a business that allows their customers to share in the membership. Many co-ops are easy to join. You only need to pay dues and may need to offer to volunteer from time to time. As a member of a co-op you will often receive benefits such as discounts and coupons. Special member sales nights offer discount prices that will bring down the cost of your organic purchases close to the prices of conventional produced foods.

If you have a group of friends that also choose to purchase organic products, check into buying in bulk straight from the supplier. The prices tend to be less when you buy in bulk and you can split the cost and products amongst your selves. Some natural health stores may even sell their stock to you for less if you buy in bulk. This is one area that you will need to ask around to see how you may find products for less.

Comparing store prices is an excellent way to find the cheapest price. Some conventional grocery stores may carry certain organic products for less than a natural health food store would, and the same works in reverse. Just compare product size and price and you may find some stores sell for much less. This requires some extra leg work, but once you discover which products are less at each store, you can make your purchases routinely.

One of the best ways to lessen your cost of organic purchases is to buy produce that is in season. Finding peaches in the winter will cost you much more than in the summer. Make sure you are purchasing the produce that is in season to maximize your dollars.

When you see a sale, be sure to stock up your reserves for later. Your freezer can be a great source of money-saving. Buy produce that is in season, and freeze it for later when it will cost much more at the store.

You can try to grow your own produce for some really great prices! If you have room in your backyard, why not start a garden where you can control all the variables in growing. Organic seeds and fertilizers can be found at almost every garden center to help you along your way.

All of these tips will lead to a lower cost of your organic produce. Mix these practices together for the ultimate dollar saving experience. Just because you are buying organic, you don't need to spend all your money on your food!
