Don't pay full price for admission tickets. Check Coke cans for offered discounts on Six Flags admission. These discounts aren't always available, but when they are, they are worth taking advantage of. If your timing isn't right for a Coke can discount, then check the online admission ticket prices at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's website. Purchasing the tickets online will enable you to print your tickets at home, and pay less than you would if you purchased your ticket at the entrance gate (currently, the online price is nearly $20 less per adult ticket than the at-gate price). Additionally, check the Six Flags America website for promotional deals, such as buy one get one free for general admission. Plus, don't underestimate the value of a season pass! If you plan to visit Six Flags Discovery Kingdom three or more times in one operating year, the season pass will mean you are getting free admission after your first couple of visits.
It's not easy to save on Parking. Currently, the parking fee for using the parking lot at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is $15. That price seems really high, considering The Disneyland Resort just barely raised it's parking price to $15 this year, and The Disneyland Resort offers security and covered parking, whereas Six Flags does not. You can purchase a year parking pass for $50. So again, if you plan to visit the park more than three times, then this is a good value for you.
Don't eat in the park if you want to save money on food. Many customer reviews floating around the Internet include angry words concerning the price of food inside the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom park, and with very good reason. The food prices inside the park are not just high, they are entirely unreasonable, even for a theme park. What's more, is that the food is mediocre at best. For instance, a cheeseburger and fries will cost you about $9 at any counter service restaurant inside The Disneyland Resort, and the food is actually pretty good. At Six Flags however, you'll pay at least $14 for a cheeseburger and fries, and the quality won't be as good.
To avoid paying park prices for food, you have the option of leaving the premises to eat outside the park. However, on a very busy day this might be tough because you may find your parking spot taken upon your return. Your best bet may be to just bring a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks, leave it in your car, and then head to the parking lot for a quick lunch break during you day at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. There are all-day lockers available at the entrance, but they cost $9. The walk to your car will take about 10 minutes each way, so weigh this fact against the $9 locker fee before deciding where to store your homemade lunch.
Keep locker use to a minimum. While we're on the topic of lockers, you will find that unless you have a person in your group sitting out at each of the most popular attractions (Medusa, Kong, etc.) who can hold your purse, backpack, or sweater, then you will need a locker to store these items. Whereas at Disneyland you can tuck these items under your legs on rides, at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom you are not permitted to do the same. The most cost efficient plan would be to put your things in a $1 locker, then ride everything in that area of the park as many times as you plan to for that day before removing your belongings from the locker. Then, just do the same thing in another area of the park. There are really only two areas of the park that contain rides where you might need to utilize a locker, so in theory, you could probably keep your locker use down to just two per visit.
Following these money saving tips can help you enjoy your trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom without wasting too much money.
