Patients may take Monitan with meals or without meals. It is recommended that adults take between 100 mg twice a day to 400 mg twice a day. However if a patient's doctor have given another measurement or daily routine, the patient must follow doctor's orders because he or she basis this medicine on the medical conditions, history and weight of the patient. This medicine should never be discontinued without the doctors permission.
If a patient misses their schedule time to take medicine they should take the medicine immediately. If it is close to the next schedule time to take the medicine the patient should wait until than.
Reasons not to take Monitan.
If a person has allergic reactions to acebutolol or other ingredients in this medicine they should not take it. If patients have heart problems such as slow heart rate, cardiogenic shock, severe heart block, or experience heart failure they should not take Monitan. Patients should check with their doctor if they experience any of these problems and other severe problems not mentioned.
Side Effects.
Patients have experienced side effects from this medicine. However some have gone away after their bodies became use to the medicine. Some of the common side effects were a decreased sexual ability, dizziness and a little drowsiness, sleeping difficulty and unusual weakness.
If patients experience breathing difficulties (including shortness of breath), cold hands and feet, depression, slow heartbeats (especially less that 50 beats per second), and swelling in their ankles, feet, and lower legs they should contact a doctor immediately. These side effects of Monitan are less common but can occur.
Persons with kidney disease should be very cautious when consuming this medication because they are at a higher risk of experiencing these side effects. If a patient is taking Monitan to treat angina, they should not abruptly stop taking this medicine. There have been reported cases of patients who stopped taking this medicine abruptly and their conditions worsen. Some have even experienced heart problems such as heart attacks.
Women who are pregnant or breast feeding should never take Monitan.
Other Medicines.
If the patient is taking any other prescribe medication or over the counter pills they should consult with a physician before taking Monitan.
