Monkey Bread is a Fun Pull-Apart Treat

Kim Blakesley
Monkey Bread is a fun pull-apart treat for the entire family. It's an easy recipe that makes it an ideal treat for young hands. When making Monkey Bread, there is a short list of items that you will need from the grocery store. Along with the items, you will need an appropriate size baking pan, a sauce pan, spoon, and hot pads.

Monkey Bread

4 small tubes biscuits
1 stick oleo
½ cup brown sugar packed
1 teaspoon cinnamon

(If you prefer your Monkey Bread with more caramel topping, use 1 ½ sticks oleo, ¾ cup packed brown sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon over the 4 small tubes of biscuits. Play with the amount of topping that you use to adjust for your taste.)

In 9" x 12" baking pan tear biscuits into small bit sized pieces. (I take each biscuit and tear it into approximately 6 pieces. This insures that they will be small enough to eat in one bit once the Monkey Bread has baked.) Do this with all four tubes. Drop them in an ungreased baking pan. (I prefer a cake pan as the sides are higher.)

In a small sauce pan, melt the stick of oleo. After the oleo is completely melted, add the brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir until dissolved. Drizzle the melted mixture over the top of the biscuit pieces making sure you spread it as evenly as possible.

Place in the oven at 350 degrees for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Check it after 15 minutes to gauge how quickly your oven is baking. The corners on the biscuit pieces will begin turning a golden brown when they are done. Remove from oven and place on a pot holder or baking rack until cool.

The Monkey Bread may be ate immediately after it comes out of the oven, just make sure you are careful as the caramel mixture is very hot and will burn if it sticks to your skin. Each serving will be taken from the pan in uneven pieces as it will break were the biscuits are joined.

For a fun way to make and serve Monkey Bread, prepare it according to the directions but us a Bundt pan or another round shaped baking pan. Once the Monkey Bread has completed baking, flip it over on a plate and serve. It turns into a self-serve treat whether it is for breakfast or for a snack during the day.
