Slightly Electro sound, driving beats and words that hit home, with everything from early 'Sting' sounding vocals on 'End of the Universe', to a Latino flair instrumental of 'Arctic Blues' This CD will take you to a place deep into yourself.
Monk, is native of Munich, Germany, fluent in both the German and English languages. His talents stem from his life long studies of violin, piano, and guitar. He cites his musical influences are many ranging from the classics of Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, and Richard Strauss to the Beatles and Sting all the way up to Prince, Grand Master Flash, Queen, and Jeff Beck and Nirvana. As a songwriter, Monk states deep admiration for Guy Chambers. "In my book this guy is the John Lennon of today." says Monk. It is from his love of music and studies that Monk developed his sound that he describes as "Kurt Cobain and Timbaland in the boxing ring".
Damaged is a true Indie musician's work. From writing every song and playing all the music, to mixing and producing, Monk did it all. "The hardest part was saying a song is finished. I'm never happy and it is really hard for me to call a song finished" This drive for perfectionism is so clear in every note.
On Damaged Music for Damaged People he takes you on a journey with every song, from the hard driving 'Hooligan Hearted' to the soul stirring 'So Sad', the lyrics and music reach out and grab you, leaving a visual imprint in your mind that lasts.
One of the true stand out cuts on this CD is "The Only One" with it's dark melody with beautiful light vocals takes us to the place all of us know.
The CD is beautifully wrapped up with the final cut of the instrumental 'Arctic Blues', every note like a brushstroke, painting a portrait of Monks soul upon your heart.
With the completion of his Debut Album, Monk is rehearsing with his new band, preparing for live performances to promote 'Damaged' "I will start playing live in my home town Munich and I plan a first tour in Germany. Then lets see what happens. I would love to go to the US and perform"
Even with the shift of focus to live performances, Monk's CD producing days are far from over. "The songs keep coming and I keep writing" Expect more from Monk, for music is what 'Fills The Emptiness'.
