Growing up were you ever scared of the house across the street? I know I was scared of one particular house in our neighborhood, all of the neighborhood children had made up rumors about the house and the people in it, and consequently we were all petrified to go anywhere near it.

The movie "Monster House" is about that house that is in every neighborhood that all of the children are afraid of. In the movie, the house is owned by Mr. Nebbercracker. Unlike most scary house homeowners, Mr.Nebbercracker gives the children in the neighborhood every reason to fear his house by yelling at them every time they come near it.

D.J is the young boy who lives across the street from the house, and the main character in the movie. D.J is left at home with a babysitter around Halloween (imagine that), and decides to watch the vacant home of the hospitalized Mr. Nebbercracker. Mr. Nebbercracker of course being hospitalized for a seizure he had while jumping on D.J when he went to retrieve a lost ball in Mr. Nebbercrackers lawn.

D.J's babysitter seems more interested in her boyfriend that D.J making it possible for him to become more and more involved with the happenings at the house without anyone really noticing except his best friend Chowder. In Mr. Nebbercrackers absence the house has started to look less like a house and more like a face, and has started to eat up anything that dares to trespass in its owners absence.

The movie was produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckkis, which set it up from the start to be a fantastic film. The animation has almost a "Nightmare before Christmas" flair to it that keeps you mesmerized from start to finish. I would stray away from bringing extremely young children to the movie, it does have quite a few scary points, but for the most part it is a pretty kid (and adult) friendly flick.

Monster House is rated PG and runs an hour and thirty one minutes. Famous voices in the film include: Steve Buscemi, Nick cannon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Jason Lee.
