In 1898, Sam Wilson homesteaded 160 acres along the Gallatin River. Sam's father, Clinton purchased the adjoining 160 acres in 1900. Then they developed it into the "Buffalo Horn Resort" which accommodated 20 guests. Today it is the 320 Guest Ranch and can have over 200 guests.

One thing that makes the guest ranch stand out among others is their hotel like accommodations. There are their vacation lodge with affordable luxury log cabins. It does not matter how large your family or group is they have a place for you ranging from a private historic cabin to a luxury log home.

The deluxe log cabins are decorated in classical Montana décor. They have two queen beds and a full bath. There are duplexes with the front porch shared. You can sit out in the rocking chairs and relax on those quiet mountain evenings.

The two-bedroom riverfront log cabins consist of 12 units. They have a small living room with a fireplace. Also included are an efficiency-style kitchen and a full bath. One bedroom has a queen bed the other has a double bed and a twin bed. Each cabin sleeps five with a pull out sofa in the living room.

The three-bedroom luxury log homes consist of seven units. They all are located at the base of the surrounding mountains. They are a short walk from the restaurant and main ranch facilities. There is also a full kitchen and two full baths. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the master bath includes a two-person Jacuzzi tub. The remaining two bedrooms have a queen and twin bed. It sleeps up to eight people comfortably.

The chalets are cabins with the feel of a mountain chalet. The high ceilings and windows allow for a terrific view of the surrounding mountains. The living area has a wood-burning stove built into a rock chimney. It has a full kitchen and two full baths. The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and the downstairs bedroom has two twin beds. The chalet can sleep four guests.

The Historic McGill Cabin was built in 1927 and was the home of Dr. Caroline McGill a former owner. It has a living room, full bath, and a complete kitchen. There is one bedroom and a loft. The wood burning stove in the living room heats the entire cabin. The wrap around deck overlooks Buffalo Horn Creek. This cabin can accommodate four guests.

Dining at the ranch is mostly made up of western cuisine. The staff makes a great effort to make each meal exciting and delicious. There are cookouts on occasions. If you have special dietary needs they can be met if you notify the staff before arrival.

The activity programs are flexible and designed to fit you and your family's needs. There is horseback riding, hiking, fly-fishing, and golf. There are day trips to West Yellowstone Park and guided fishing tours also.
