Monthly Associated Content Review, July 2010

An Associated Content Writer Gives a Review of His Work

K.L. Stevens
I joined Associated Content in March 2009, cranked out a bunch of articles, and then pretty much disappeared until July of this year. This post will be the first in a series of monthly reviews in order to keep myself motivated, and to report on things like the number of articles written, number of page views, amount of money I make, and anything else that came up. My hope is that I'll better be able to keep track of my progress, and maybe this will be helpful to new Associated Content writers or people thinking of writing for Associated Content.

Like I said, I first started writing for Associated Content in March 2009. My goal was to try to create another stream of income, something that would come in years after the work. I think that's possible with Associated Content. You can create a ton of content for a year (much more than I did), and still see dividends years later. I wrote 41 articles in March 2009, and reviewed some of experiences in this post: A New Writer on Associated Content Offers a Review It's now 76 page views later for that article...

So, why did I come back after a 16 month hiatus? After the flurry of articles in March, I was making between $2 and $3 per month in performance bonuses until November, then all the sudden that bumped up to $3 to $4 per month. I hadn't done anything: no promotion, hadn't even looked at my account myself during those times. I know it wasn't a huge increase in money, but it made me start to think of what I could do if I hadn't stopped writing. Even one article a month would have helped, but I hadn't done any.

So, I wrote a few more articles in July and submitted them for payment. You can see those in my August articles. None of them were published in July, so this is a good month to start my comparison going forward. In July I had 2,943 page views for an average of 94 per day. I made $4.56 in performance bonuses. This was my best monthly performance bonus ever. I had made $3.93 in June. This was great, and so far in August I've dramatically beaten those numbers. Now the challenge is to keep up the writing and continue to increase my page views.

Interested in knowing which one of my articles got the most hits in July? Here it is: Four Things to Know If Your Dog Ate a Used Tampon

I know, funny, huh? Nearly half of all of my all-time page views are for that article though, and if you Google "dog ate tampon" that article is first. I guess it's something to be proud of... You never know when you may need the information. It happened to me, and I Googled it at the time. Now, if it happens to you, you'll find a concise article about it.

Check back next month for August's figures or, even better, fan me. Hopefully these monthly updates will keep me motivated and increase the amount of money I make. I appreciate the support!

Good to see you back. Yes, sometimes the strangest pieces suddenly get hits. This past month my 2009 piece on how Adam Lambert changed the face of American Idol forever got over 400 hits on its own in one day - for no good reason I could think of. By the end of that week, it had racked up almost 700 hits. Stranger still is that it only got about 200 when I published it, and that was just after the finale of season 8. Go figure!

Welcome back! I took a pretty good hiatus for a while too and came back full force this year after I had a baby because I need some extra money. Now I'm a featured wedding contributer. You really get out of the site what you put into it. Sometimes it takes a lot of work, but the passive income is very rewarding!
