Moody Blues Concert: Still Rocking After All These Years

Crystal
Having been a fan of the Moody Blues since the late 1960's, I was excited about seeing them in concert. I have not been disappointed.

One of the nicest things about seeing the Moody Blues in concert was the visual. It was so nice to see a rock band in classy appearing attire. They obviously care about their appearance. As compared to many other rock bands, I saw neither ripped t-shirts nor torn jeans on any of the Moody Blues members. All the band members could have made individual fashion statements. It was very refreshing to see. I remember thinking how cool it was to see such classy looking guys kick out the jams.

Another nice visual site to behold was to witness how well the Moody Blues band members have aged. They all look remarkably well. This goes double for Justin Haywood. (My personal side note).

The acoustics were good. No instrument nor vocalist overpowered another. There was balance throughout the set. The sound level during the Moody Blues concert was perfect. It was not too loud as to cause ear ringing. Yet, it was not so low you could not understand them.

The stage lighting was pleasant and colorful. It was basic, rather psychedelic, and not distracting from the band at all. Overall, in fact, the stage set-up for the Moody Blues concert was very eye appealing. It provided a perfect blending with the band. This allowed for their music to shine through.

"Ride My See Saw" was excellent and a crowd favorite. "Question" was the best sing-a-long led by the Moody Blues, in my opinion. "Legend of a Mind" (or "Timothy Leary's Dead" for the novice) was great. The encore, of course, was "Nights in White Satin." This is a great song on their "Days of Future Passed" recording. In live concert, however, the orchestral accompaniment made the song simply superb. "Tide Rushes In" was superb, also. Actually, all the songs were great!! And, they were all fun to sing along with.

What was particularly unique about the Moody Blues concert was the orchestra onstage. It was a small orchestra, but still powerful. The accompaniment they provided during the musical selections was just exquisite. It is not everyday you attend a rock concert and see or hear that. Needless to say, it was both refreshing and excellent. It was fun and so interesting to hear the transformation from recording to live concert performance of their songs.

The concert lasted for two hours and provided nonstop entertainment. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a combination of rock and orchestral accompaniment.

The Moody Blues are another band that have been rocking for about 40 years. I am so grateful that I have seen them in concert. As good as the Moody Blues are in the recording studio (and on albums), they are a million times better in live concert.
