MoonChyld's Entertaiment - My Opinion on Iron Man 2

T. S. Jones
After revealing to the world that he is Iron Man, Tony Stark is on top of the world thanks to the suit he created to protect the world after witnessing firsthand what can happen when his weapons fall into the wrong hands. This time around Tony has to deal with an industrialist competitor named Justin Hammer, who wants so much to be in the billionaire's shoes and Ivan Vanko (impressively played by Mickey Rourke), a physicist like Tony who has vengeance on his mind for all things Stark. Gwyneth Paltrow return as Tony's right hand and possible confidant Pepper Potts and is given more responsibilities in Stark Industries that comes with an assistant of her own named Natalie Rushman who is actually an agent for S.H.E.I.L.D.

If there was an award for most improved character it would go to James "Rhody" Rhodes. Taking over from where Terence Howard shouldn't have started, Don Cheadle takes the role of the Lieutenant Colonel and also dons the War Machine armor. Cheadle played the role more maturely than Howard. Despite Terence saying "There was no explanation, apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up." Did he not see his performance in the movie - "Next time baby" - he sounded like a soft man trying to be hard; didn't work Terence. If Favreau's not so pleasant working experience with him wasn't good cause for the re-casting saying that line alone should have sealed the deal.

The breakout scene has to be when Nick Fury (portrayed again by Samuel L. Jackson) gives Tony some property that belonged to his father, Howard Stark, which included some film footage where he left a message for his son. This point in the film shows Tony having some closure from the loss of his father; a man he believed to not show much love to him as he felt a father should towards his son when in actuality it was the opposite.

Robert Downey Jr. is truly at home with the character of Tony Stark. To be one of many who has followed his career from as far back as Weird Science and Less Than Zero, it can be agreed that even with all his setbacks (who can forget the incident at the hotel in Palm Springs?)Hollywood never gave up on him and by the look of the numbers both movies brought in neither does his fans. For the time being Robert is giving Tony and the suit a rest until 2013 when Iron Man 3 with a new villain and expected more action and explosives. Iron Man 2 is currently in theaters.

I've been writing about the entertainment world for some time now. I enjoy the aspects of it, the ins and outs, and some of the drama is like a great reality show. My wish is to write for a few magazines and...  View profile
