Moonchyld's Entertainment News - Confessions of a Teen Idol Review

The new VH1 reality series presents seven actors (a few can sing too) working towards reviving their careers and returning to the forefront of fame. You may remember them from 80s and 90s television shows and film. Allow me to introduce the guys to you:

Christopher Atkins - Best remembered as Brooke Shields lover in the hit movie The Blue Lagoon (1980). He reunited with Shields on her sitcom Suddenly Susan. He currently owns his own outdoor sports company and builds custom made pools.

David Chokachi - Earned his celebrity status as Cody Madison on Baywatch. He's more or less doing independent work and was one of the stars of the short-lived TV series Witchblade.

Billy Hufsey - Became a household name with the 80s television series Fame as Christopher Donlon; he also garnered new fans in 1988 as Jennifer Horton's (Melissa Reeves) boyfriend Emilio Ramirez on the daytime soap Days of Our Lives. He has made a good life for himself with a career in corporate America and has return to the entertainment world with a new CD and a new outlook on his music and acting career.

Jeremy Jackson - Like Chokachi, he was also a star on the syndicated hit show Baywatch playing Mitch Buchannon's (David Hasselhoff) son Hobie. After spending time in rehab stemming from manufacturing and abusing drugs, the now sober Jackson became a successful party/club promoter. He is a celebrity endorser and hosts shows for Ed Hardy Clothing.

Eric Nies - The only man in the group who has hands on experience in reality television as a member of the original cast of MTV's The Real World: New York. Nies went on to becoming a model and hosting The Grind (1992), a dance show also on MTV. He's a life coach who teaches a mix of health and wellness from the Eastern and Western cultures; a more spirituality path to life.

Jamie Walters - the singer/songwriter played Ray Pruitt, Donna Martin's (Tori Spelling) abusive musician boyfriend from the other side of town on Beverly Hills, 90210. He later became the lead actor on another Aaron Spelling produced show The Heights; the show offered more of a platform to showcase Jamie's talent as a music artist. He performed the theme song How Do You Talk to an Angel; it became a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992. Living in L.A. with his wife and children, Jamie is a firefighter/paramedic for the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Adrian Zmed - Best remembered as the co-star of William Shatner and Heather Locklear on T. J. Hooker as Officer Vince Romano and as Johnny Nogerelli in Grease 2 opposite Michelle Pfeiffer. The former host of Dance Fever has made guest appearances on various television shows including The Steve Harvey Show and the daytime drama Passions. He now has a show called Adrian Zmed, In Concert on the Princess Cruise Line until April 2009.

They've been set to live together and face the harsh reality of what it takes to achieve something they once had - fame. Through various exercises they will learn strengths and weakness in each other and themselves; their first reality check came at them pretty hard. What was supposed to be a red carpet event became a first of many lessons to learn about wanting to get back into the business.

After getting out of the limo and taking pictures on the red carpet, they waited backstage as their arrival was announced to a screaming audience. Once onstage of what seemed to be too good to be true, was too good to be true. When the curtains opened, they don't see the screaming audience but Scott Baio and Jason Hervey - the producers of the show. The person most affected by the stunt was David who felt they got played and was so ready to leave, packed bag and all. Adrian gave Jason a call letting him know what happened and Jason came to the house explaining the reason behind it and all was well.

In another episode guys were then seated in front of a two-way mirror where they witnessed a focus group tearing them apart - except Chris who the group thought was leading man material. This gave light to his decision for being on the show. They were also given makeovers followed by a photo shoot. They are ready to move forward in this process.

There is much ground to cover for these guys to recharge their careers and once again capture the fame they lost. Things to come are a trip down memory lane, continuous group sessions, some one on one time with someone from the past who were affected by the downfall and more.

Scott Baio said it best - "Fame is a funny thing; you don't realize how much you love it till it's gone."

Catch Confessions of a Teen idol Sundays at 8pm on VH1.

I've been writing about the entertainment world for some time now. I enjoy the aspects of it, the ins and outs, and some of the drama is like a great reality show. My wish is to write for a few magazines and...  View profile

Sounds like they'll have to take some blows to their dignity on this one. Takes courage for them to do this. I liked your recap and update.
