Moon-Shadows

Wayne Howard
The dog and the walker
Step out of the doorway.
Daylight has faded,
And moonlight holds sway.

Furtively flitting,
Their moon-shadows frolic.
Soft silvery light drips
From dew bejeweled leaves.

Monsters and mayhem,
The dog and the walker,
Shape-shifters, cunning,
Slide down the sidewalk.

Clouds drifting swiftly,
Creatures of chaos,
Devour the shadows
And leave naught but night.
