I recently wrote an article on Alan. Alan, the 13 year old eight grade student from Covina, California has been named a United States Achievement Academy Award Winner. He has accepted this prestigious award.
This is a position of honor less than 10% of all young people can ever hope to attain. The Academy recognizes fewer than 10% of all American high school students. It places Alan among our nation's most elite youth. Alan's biography will be published nationally in the USAA National Awards Yearbook. He was provided a news release form to complete and distribute copies to the local media. If the news release is published, this would be a way to announce the award to his community.
He is also eligible to apply for one of 254 scholarship cash grant of up to $10,000 which is awarded each year by the nonprofit USAA Scholarship Foundation. The United State Achievement Academy also offers free service and scholarship opportunities to award winners.
Dr. George A. Stevens, founder, has devoted several years to teaching and the needs of students. The USAA Scholarship Foundation develops the academic growth of those students who express a true interest in learning.
I am so proud of Alan. He is such a hard working student. I am confident that he will continue to keep up the good work. He deserves to be recognized for his hard work.
To be considered for this award; a teacher must nominate the student. Alan was nominated by his Science teacher.
Alan also has the opportunity to visit Europe the summer of 2008. This would be an enormous opportunity for him. It would be so educationally. Alan and his mom are seriously considering it.
Alan is in three honor classes, which are English, Science, and History. His math class is Algebra I.
I asked Alan what was the strategy of getting an A in each of those honor classes. He said that he just pay attention in class, if one of his friends tries to talk to him in class, he would just block them out. Alan said that he always do all of his homework on time, even if it means staying up a little late sometimes. He said that he ask questions if he has doubts. He also does extra reading. He takes his education very serious. He is looking forward to high school next year.

Post a Commentsorry to burst your bubble, but the USAA is a national scam. my friends and I have paid money, and have not benefitted at all. It turns out that colleges do not even recognize this organization, and agree that it is useless. I did research and found this article from years ago about the scam. I am deeply disappointed, this was a HUGE blow to my self esteem. I am a high achieving student who was taken advantage of. so much for ranking first at school.

We need more young people in the world like Alan. Sounds like he could grow up to be a leader. Excellent article.
Good for Alan! He sounds like a young man who's on his way!
