More Animals in Crisis

Terri Rimmer
On a daily basis I and many other animal advocates are flooded with emails about four-legged creatures who are neglected, abused, or in some kind of other crisis.

While there would never be near enough room to address all of their problems in one story, here are some:

There's a Facebook group called "Collecting donations to help local Philly shelters/rescues/fosters" in which you can donate a bag or a can of cat food to feed the tons of feral feline colonies that need to be fed in Philadelphia. (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Collecting-Donations-to-help-local-Philly-sheltersrescuesfosters/116981625008843?v=wall&ref=ts).

Compassionate Pug Rescue currently has 27 dogs they are caring for and is in desperate need of monetary donations.

To make a donation, visit compassionatepugrescue.com.

Kindred Canines, Modesto, CA's local dog rescue group, was still a few hundred dollars short for operating expenses as of last month but it's not too late to donate.

To do so, see kindredcanines.org and click on the Paypal button or send a check or money order made out to Trinity Balmonte to PMB 125, 2900, Standiford, Suite 16B, Modesto, CA 95350.

For more information, call 209-450-0227.

Another Facebook group, "One United Against Gassing of Animals in America," implored citizens May 7 to help wildlife regarding the BP oil spill in the gulf -

The Gulf Coast Oil Spill Volunteers is a group of people ready to receive the required training and volunteers were being deployed in Louisiana and Mississippi, among other areas.

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue put a plea out for a dog named Alfie May 6 who was abused and neglected by his owner. Although his wounds are slowly healing, he's waiting for a foster home and donations are being accepted through a Chipin account,

All donations are 100 percent tax deductible.

Dogs Deserve Better (DDB), which represnts rescue and chained dogs, is looking for dedicated volunteers to join the team in New River Valley, VA.

"Since becoming a representative in July 2009, I have unchained 31 dogs and have busted a suspected dog fighting operation," says Shannon Eaton Allen, Facebook administrator for the DDB group who also recently accepted the position of the organization's national resource coordinator.

The agency is also looking for a foster coordinator and more information may be obtained by accessing dogsdeservebetternrv.org.
