These Valentine's Day crafts may be a little harder to make. Enlist the help of your high school student to assist their younger siblings to make these Valentine's Day crafts an activity for the whole family. You may have to make some material purchases for these crafts, but the cost will be minimal, and you'll be able to find everything you need at your local craft or party store.

Valentine's Day Craft #5: Valentine Finger Puppet

The following supplies are needed for this Valentine's Day craft: card stock, hole punch, scissors, markers, glue and googly eyes (available at your local craft or party store). To make, cut a heart from the card stock or from heavy construction paper. Use it as a template to make as many hearts as you need. Punch a starter hole for each finger with a hole punch, then use scissors to enlarge the hole as needed. Your child's fingers should fit snugly through the holes. Decorate the heart with the markers (add glitter if you desire) and add facial features. Glue on the googly eyes and write a message on the back. (Tip: Help your child make several different characters for a Valentine's Day puppet show!)

Valentine's Day Craft #6: Candy Necklace

The following supplies are needed for this Valentine's Day craft: plastic wrap, individually wrapped candies and pink or red ribbon. Begin this craft by laying out three feet of plastic wrap, cutting it in half lengthwise. Place the candies (individually or in groups) every three inches. Roll the plastic over and tie bows between each candy using six-inch strips of ribbon. Tie the two ends of the plastic wrap together and cover the knot with another ribbon.

Valentine's Day Craft #7: Puppy Love Locket

The following supplies are needed for this Valentine's Day craft: thin cardboard, scissors, hole punch, markers, clear contact paper and a small metal ring. Cut a heart shape out of the thin cardboard and punch a hole in the top. Decorate the heart with a Valentine's Day message or drawing, then seal the shape on both sides with the clear contact paper. Attach the heart to a small metal ring for adding to your dog's collar. (Tip: Use an old key ring to make the locket into a sweet keychain. Glue small pictures of your child onto the heart to personalize this Valentine's Day craft.)

Valentine's Day Craft #8: Friendship Rings

The following supplies are needed for this Valentine's Day craft: scissors, craft foam or card stock, faux fur fabric (optional), white glue, small hole punch, pipe cleaner, faux jewels, buttons and markers (optional). First, cut a heart shape from the craft foam or card stock. If you choose to use fabric, first glue a small piece of the fabric to the foam or card stock and allow it to dry before cutting out the heart shape. Use the hole punch to make two centered holes in the heart. Cut a four-inch length of pipe cleaner. Bend it in half and push the ends through the holes from front to back. Place the ring on your child's finger to measure the size and twist the pipe cleaner ends together until the ring fits comfortably. Remove the ring and trim any excess pipe cleaner. Then, decorate as you wish. Use faux jewels and buttons for decoration. Use a marker to draw or write a message on the ring. (Tip: If you use craft foam to make this Valentine's Day craft, you won't need a hole punch. Just push the pipe cleaner through the foam.)

Most of these easy Valentine's Day crafts don't use paint, so there is little worry to protect your work surface. However, supervision is even more necessary because these crafts are a little more complex. In addition to your child handing these out to classmates, these Valentine's Day crafts also make great gifts for the family.
