More Old Wives Tales in the Act of Predicting Your Baby's Gender

Paige Nieto
You may have read my other article on the Mayan method of gender prediction. I had so much fun with that test in my own experience that I decided to find more tests one can try when trying to figure out if they're having a boy or girl Here are some of the tests I found and my experience with them.

Morning Sickness-the joke is why do they call it 'morning' sickness when it happens all day? According to this tale if you have constant morning sickness during the first trimester or even throughout your entire pregnancy then you're having a girl. If you don't congrats you're having a boy. In my case I didn't have morning sickness at all and the few times I got sick were from a virus I picked up from the daycare I worked at and I ended up having a beautiful baby boy. In my sister's case, she was sick for most of her first trimester and did have a girl. So in my case it did prove to be a somewhat accurate test for me.

Weight Gain-before you get all up in arms ladies this is about the father of the baby. An old wives tale goes that if the father gains weight during the pregnancy then you're going to have a girl. If he doesn't then you're having a boy. Quick, easy, and to the point. However in my case it was also untrue. My husband gained almost as much weight as I did (usually from a case of my eyes being bigger than my stomach) while I carried our son. So in our case it didn't work because we both gained weight during those nine months.

Sweet and Sour-everyone knows this one. If you crave sweet stuff, such as ice cream prepare yourself for a bundle of sugar, spice, and everything nice. If you crave something sour or salty, it's a snake, snail, and puppy dog tailed package for you!! While this is a fun one, it never worked for me simply because when I was pregnant (and even when I eat just for myself) if I have something sweet, I need something sour to counteract it and vice versa. Basically I craved sweet and sour stuff because if I had too much of one I would need some of the other. Many people still tell this tale but in my case it didn't work for me simply because I liked to eat during my pregnancy.

Of course the only way to know for sure is to see it for you get come delivery day. However, if you opt to be surprised, these games can help your nine months seem a little more enjoyable.
