3. Jay-Z
The most successful Hip-hop artist. Unable to get a record deal in his early career he met up with friend Damon Dash, and partner Kareem Biggs to form Roca-A-Fella when he released the critically acclaimed debut album " Reasonable Doubt." He has also made songs with other greats including The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Eminem, Linkin Park, Dr. Dre, and others. He has since sold his clothing line and record company. After a short experience as the CEO of Def Jam he step down and is now in business for himself. With the popular touring giant Live Nation, Jay-Z has $150,000,000 in personal investments waiting for him.
4. Nas
Or Nasir Jones is crowned as the greatest Lyricist. He was born as the oldest son from jazz musician Olu Dara and Fannie Ann Jones. He grew up in the Crown Heights district of New York with his brother nicknamed "jungle." After constant rejections form major labels Nas hooked up with MC Serch who sealed a deal with Colombia records. On Colombia he dropped his legendary album "Illmatic," witch made it official that he was a major force in hip-hop. Long-time friend and fellow rapper Jay-Z wanted Nas on his debut album but Nas didn't show up for the recording. Jay-Z and apprentice Memphis Bleek took offense to his actions and began a feud with the rap star. After years of arguing and constant references in each others albums, Jay-Z and Nas killed the fued by way of a meeting put together by an mutual friend. Since the meeting Nas has signed onto Jay-Z's then label and has released two albums.
5. Eminem
Real name Marshall Mathers III. Eminem started rapping at age 14. He recorded his debut album called "Infinite" in the basement of a recording studio owned by the Bass Brothers. After getting exposure form the album he entered the 1997 Rap Olympics. He received 2nd place to a rapper that is not known today. Jimmy Ivine who was the CEO of Interscope Records wanted to hear a CD form him. When he got his hands on "Infinite" he immediately to it to producer Dr. Dre who was impressed as well. Dr. Dre signed him on the spot. With that Eminem dropped his first major record label album "The Slim Shady LP" witch was held as an classic. Since then he has put out 3 solo albums and 2 group albums that has earned him title as 2nd most albums sold as an Hip-hop artist.
