Rutgers Ladies Basketball Team Coach Speaks Out

More IMUS clash

Don Imus according to MSNBC has stated that the two-week suspension is acceptable to him. OK that's his choice, apparently, he is going to take the high road, and that's in keeping with his soulful way. You be the judge. Can you sense that when dealing with someone of power and influence, one ought to look deeper than an utterance to find a man who speaks to millions in satire? So many who haven't walked in his shoes are taking shots at a large target, perhaps they should remember the cost of those shots.

The coach of the Rutgers team has found her voice in the matter and the following is extracted from the MSNBC web site regarding her statement-

"Head coach C. Vivian Stringer said her players "are the best this nation has to offer, and we are so very fortunate to have them at Rutgers University. They are young ladies of class, distinction. They are articulate, they are gifted. They are God's representatives in every sense of the word."
Imus has been suspended for two weeks for calling the Rutgers female basketball players "nappy-headed hos."
"It's not about them (players) as black or nappy-headed. It's about us as a people," Stringer said. "When there is not equality for all, or when there has been denied equality for one, there has been denied equality for all."

Coach Stringer has large shoulders, no doubt, but some of what she is saying here seems to be asking questions that need a larger frame to fit the picture. When there is equality for all, there can be no equality, which is by its very definition a state of attaining that that is to be equaled? When one is denied equality, that one is denied equality, the others are not affected. This would seem to be empirical in nature. Coach Stringer has made this statement about equality, but such a blanket philosophy must be looked at stringently. Don Imus is put under an extremely harsh microscope on a daily basis, sometimes Don Imus comes up lacking, one has to wonder, were coach Stringer put under that same set of constraints, how would she fair? It's just a question...what do you think?

Many years ago, an insurance man went up against a huge dynastic empire called "whole life insurance," companies of immense power and wealth. They took those premiums in, returning little of it to the economy at large. This man, who you may have heard of, his name, was A.L. Williams (Art Williams); at that time, he said that America was being fed a "sacred line of bull," about the subject. Can you see where that might be happening today about other subjects? American's are smart, we are also industrious, and we are disciplined, when we need to, we have more spine than any nation on earth; the danger to that doesn't necessarily come armed with bullets and bombs- it might come in the way of faulty philosophy which is bought into without examination, what do you think?

"While they worked hard in the classroom and accomplished so much and used their gifts and talents, you know, to bring the smiles and the pride within this state in so many people, we had to experience racist and sexist remarks..." - Stringer
