More Layoffs, Companies Closing for Good on the West Coast

The economy seems to be worse than the TV news is reporting. Although they like to spout stats and figures from the department of labor they have yet to point out the thousand of companies that are closing their doors for good each week. Yes, you read it right - each week. Let's look at just some of them from the last week that are located just on the west coast of the USA.

You might have heard that McDonalds was doing great during the recession, tell that to the people in Juneau, Alaska, when their McDonalds was shut down on September 20, 2010.

Oregon is not fairing much better in the food industry with several restaurants shutting down in Portland and Eugene. The Oregon Department of Revenue will be closing a field office with 131 people to lose their jobs. All of that happening between Sept 16-20, 2010. Oregon is also facing huge lay off of some school teachers. Oregon has an unemployment rate of 11%, with some counties reaching as high as 16%.

September 15 the marked a terrible day for California, when the following companies shut their doors:
Freedom Financial Network - Sacramento
Claror Air Filtration Products - Sacramento
Safeway grocery stores - 2 in Campbell
Pepsi - Merced plant
Coastal Home Living - San Clemente
Comcast office - Oroville

Of course there were the on going layoff announcements from Savemart Supermarkets in California, the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, Crothall Service Group in West Palm Beach, San Jose International Airport and of course the huge Fed-ex layoff.

I am not even going to mention the companies that have declared bankruptcy. There are several from each state on the west coast for each day last week.

So is the recession worse than it is reported on the nightly news? You be the judge and visit the website where I got this list of heartbreaking company layoffs and shut downs. Visit Daily Job Cuts for up to the minute worker news.
