He fidgets with his beige hat; which charmingly contains a pinned four leaf clover on the
left side. His mannerism grow increasingly more rigid, although, the subject on his mind
slightly tames him a bit. Moments later, he is joined by an older woman and his demeanor
instantly changes. His wife and soul mate of thirty-two years has been his savior. He had
been battling his health for the past nine months. Yet, he never seemed phased by his
doctor's admissions. He has everything he wanted in life. Someone to love, admirable
children, and likable grandchildren. He knew that everything will in fact be okay. One week
from now, he will die from a heart attack.
Meanwhile in Tokyo, a young couple with a baby are steadily moving throughout a toy
store. Today is their son's third birthday and they decided that he can choose as many toy
as he wishes. He has been smiling constantly while grabbing as many items as possible.
Because of his father's passion for baseball, he could already hit a ball several feet in
the air. Even at three, he is an incredibly spirited individual and has the gift to make
people smile with his. And at the age of twelve he will be hit by a car, damaging his spinal
cord. He will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. And his mother will go into a
deep depression. Three years later, his parents will get a divorce.
Inside a coffeehouse in Ontario, a woman of thirty-five sits distractedly at a table
in the far back corner. She often does this a few days a week, so it is not unusual for her
to be alone. In fact, she had recently got used to the idea of being alone for the rest of
her life. She had been married once. She and her husband had kept trying for a baby and
nothing came of it. And then throughout the divorce her husband made it seem like
everything was her fault. And now she's left to ponder what her life could have been like.
Since then, she made a promise to herself never to fall in love again. Although, that will
change in two years. She will meet her future husband in this very coffeehouse and together
they will have a baby girl.
The suburbs of Melbourne have been his home for the past sixteen years. Tiredly
living each day with his mother and her alcohol obsession. His father worked long hours
while his mother hasn't had a job since he was seven. He had covered for her many times so
she wouldn't be seen as a monster. He never looked forward to going to school, only because
he feared leaving her alone at home. Even when he was younger she had never been attentive
and showed little interest in his life. And even so, he still silently willed that one day
she will change. After graduating college at the top of his class he will find a cure for
liver cancer. His mother will later be diagnosed with the disease
