More About Michael James Perry
Just a quick recap: Michael Perry was tried and convicted of the shotgun slaying of Sandra Stotler in 2001. He has been on death row for 6 years now in Livingston, Texas and is working harder than ever to prove his innocence.
I have found that Michael is a very complicated young man. While we've built a very strong bond between us, there are times when I receive his letters that he still has that "very cautious" approach with me. I can tell that he chooses his words very carefully at times like he might say the wrong thing. I've tried to tell him on a number of occasions that I will never bail on him and that we are going to see this thing through together. But alas, I still don't think he fully believes me. I really believe that he is very afraid of losing me as his friend and I don't know what to do to convince him he has nothing to worry about.
Other times he is so relaxed, it's like he sitting in the same room with me watching TV. He will talk like he doesn't have a care in the world and life is beautiful. He talks a lot about his plans when he gets out (notice I said when and not if he gets out). One thing I won't do is betray his trust so now I have to choose my words carefully. He just loves to bust my balls about football. Michael likes the San Diego Chargers and I'm a huge Denver Bronco fan. If you know anything about football, you know these two teams are division rivals. I think the reason he likes the Chargers so much is his love for southern California. If it were up to him, I think that's where he'd want to live for the rest of his life.
It is no secret that Michael is bi-polar and at one point the prison doctors decided he didn't need his medicine anymore. If you don't know what being bi-polar is, it's like being on an emotional rollercoaster with a lunatic at the switch. He went into a little bit of depression but when you're on death row, bi-polar and no meds it becomes monumental. It is very hard to keep someone positive in this situation. He's a tough kid and he did bounce right back. He has since been put back on his medication.
Michael has some very strange views on life and I'll give you a good example of one. I sent him a letter in mid-November and among other things, I made the mistake of wishing him a Happy Thanksgiving. Well let me tell you what that pissed him off to no end. This is what I heard loud and clear: "I don't celebrate the slaughter of the American Indians" While his intentions are good, I think he's misinformed about what Thanksgiving is all about. Still I won't make that mistake again. I was scared to death to get him a Christmas present thinking he would yell at me for Christmas being a Pagan holiday (I don't believe that for a minute). His birthday ought to be a real riot. Make no mistake about it; Michael can be a handful at times.
I have told you some less than flattering things about Michael Perry but if he was all sugar plums and sweetness, I wouldn't trust him at all. The fact is you just can't help liking him when you get to know him. He does have a charm about him and he uses it to his full advantage. I wouldn't trade my friendship for him for anything in the world. His good qualities far outweigh his bad ones.
I don't think any of us can appreciate what Michael Perry goes through on a daily basis. Wondering if next month will be the month they set an execution date. Not knowing what your future has in store for you if you have one at all. You have to admire his strength and the determination for not giving up. I know in my heart that he's innocent and I can't wait for the day when we are in the same room watching TV and life is beautiful. I can't speak for him but it will be that best day of my life!

Kathy, I will agree with you on one point. Kristin Willis needs to be behind bars. I noticed you didn't address the fact your son had a gunfight with police. I know you love your son and you still want to protect him but you can't pick and choose which facts are important and which ones are not. Jason had a history of violence, Michael did not. Jason had a gunfight with police, Michael did not. I could keep going on and on, Kathy, but it would do no good. We will never agree whether Michael or Jason killed those three people but I'm sure, in the end, when it's our time to meet our maker, we'll know the truth and let's leave it at that.
Kathy, Please let me tell you that no one has to be on Jason's visitation list to get mail. Second: If you have a problem with TAZ, write him directly and leave me the hell out of it. This article is about my little brother Michael, not about you and TAZ. I will say one thing while we're on the subject, I want NO harm to come to your son. I just want him to man up and admit he murdered three people and save Michael's life.
He shotguned 3 people to death, yet he still has the balls to claim innocence. It pretty much makes me sick. Innocent people don't shoot it out with the police. You need, for a moment, to stop being a Mom and look at the facts. Your son is a cold blooded killer and that is something you'll never be able to change.
Denise: What kind of lowlife says something like that? Do you have any idea what we are all going through?Let me turn the tables and ask you, what if your son was going to die for a crime he didn't commit? Would you want to turn on your computer and see a comment like the one you made? That's just flat out disgusting and evil.
I hope your proud of yourself. I could lower myself to your standards of insensitivity but I like to sleep at night.

Believe what you want, you do not have the facts. Michael wasn't the one who shot it out with police, that was Jason. I never said that Michael was an angel but there is no evidence to prove he killed anyone and before you bring up the cigarette butt, if that was such powerful evidence, than why did the state drop the murder charges against him for the boys? It IS the only physical evidence in the case that remotely links him to the crimes and even the state knows it was bogus. This will all come out soon enough and you'll find out just how far off base you really are. You don't even have the guts to identify yourself but then again that's how most cowards and cyber bullys handle things.
I know that Michael Perry killed Sandra Stotler and Jeremy and Adam. He knows he killed them. I also know that he did two drive by shootings and almost hit a baby. Michael and Miranda never went to court. Craig Turner went to prison. Get your facts straight. You know the jailhouse Michael. Not the Michael that lived in Conroe. He will say anything now to not have to die. His own sister in law - Rebecca says he confessed to her. I believe you do not know what you are talking about. He has conned you and everyone. But those that knew the real Michael Perry knows what type of guy is was and is today.. he never worked, always lived off everyone else and was a worthless excuse for a human being. At some time he has to take responsibility for his actions. He deserves to be where he is now.
I don't know who you are but you have absolutley no idea what your talking about. You really need to get your facts straight before you go shooting off your mouth.
