More MLB Trade Deadline News

The most recent MLB trade deadline news before the July 31st MLB non-waiver trade deadline.

Phillies trade for second baseman

The Phillies have found their replacement for Chase Utley while he is out for 4-6 weeks. The Phillies acquired former White Sox second baseman Tadahito Iguchi. Iguchi will start at second base until Utley returns in early September. The Phillies sent minor league pitcher Michael Dubee to the White Sox in return for Iguchi.

Sammy Hard to Trade

Sammy Sosa is becoming very hard for the Texas Rangers to trade. They have had inquiries for the homerun hitting DH, but have not had an offer that they think is good enough. Sosa is only garnering small interest from AL teams because he is a DH, and teams are being weary of him because of his past.

Dotel Wants Extension

Octavio Dotel may not be traded by the Royals after all. Dotel has said that he wants to remain in Kansas City and that he will sign an extension if he is offered one. The Royals were shopping Dotel because this was the last years of his contract, but they may change their mind with this news. It is not known if the Royals are expected to resign Dotel.

Orioles Shopping Bradford

The Orioles don't have much to trade at the deadline, but it appears that they are actively shopping one of their only reliable relievers, Chad Bradford. Bradford could garner limited interest from a few teams, including the Tigers and the Indians.

Mets Looking at Contreras

The Mets sent scouts to watch Jose Contreras pitch and it appears that they may be the only team willing to take a chance on the Cuban. If the price on Contreras comes down, the Mets could bring him back to New York.

Bourne for Astros Closer?

It appears that the Philles and Astros are talking about a Michael Bourne for Chad Qualls or Dan Wheeler swap. Bourne, the fast-running outfield prospect of the Phillies, is a Houston native and has intrigued the Astros.

Billy Beane Back in Business

Billy Beane is known for his great trades. He may be back in business at this trade deadline as the Athletics appear to be sellers. They already traded catcher Jason Kendall, and they could trade DH Mike Piazza, starter Joe Kennedy, outfielder Shannon Stewart and recently demoted outfielder Bobby Kielty. It will be interesting to see if Billy Beane can make any magic happen with these players.
