The pit bull attacked before, in the month of May. The dog was given back to the owner with orders to keep a muzzle on the animal. In my opinion; that was the first serious mistake. Looks like the dog wasn't wearing the muzzle. It just wandered in this woman's garage and attacked her and the infant child that was in her arms. If a dog is so vicious that it requires a muzzle; that dog has no business living next door to anyone. Especially a dog that has attacked before. I know people love their pets. But, it sends chills through me when I think of what could have happened to that baby if the mother was not able to hold off the dog. Even the mother's life was in grave danger. The dog weighed 80 pounds; this situation could have ended up much worst
The news reporter attempted to ask the mother a couple of questions today, on TV, but, the mother was still too emotionally upset to talk about what happened just yesterday. She and her infant went through a terrible ordeal. Thank God, the baby was not harmed. Both of the mother's arms are seriously injured. According to the news, there could be permanent nerve damage to her arms. It's too soon to tell.
The owner should definitely be held responsible for the dog's action. He knew the dog had attacked before; he had orders to keep a muzzle on the dog. He chose not to follow those orders. Therefore, the owner should be held accountable for what happened. The dog owner hasn't made a statement, yet. I would like to hear from him, to hear what he has to say about why the dog was out alone and without a muzzle.

Post a CommentGald to hear the rest of the story! I hope she sues, but they probably won't have any money. That was a horrible attack that she will never forget for the rest of her life! I have been attacked and bitten by a dog before (nothing like this), and I still have panic attacks if I'm walking, and a dog starts to jump on me or bark.
what a terrible situation. Great report!
Thanks for this story.
typo ...It's "NOT" safe for anyone...
Thanks for the follow-up. I can't believe the dog didn't have a muzzle on. I hope the lady doesn't suffer the permanent nerve damage that is still in question. Although animals will be animals, this owner still needs to be held accountable because a dog like this should have been secured in a yard and with a muzzle on - that's if he really should have been allowed to keep the pet anyway. I understand the pet/owner relationship, but when animals become vicious, it's safe for anyone (even their own owners) to be exposed to them. Great reporting and great job keeping the story updated. :-)
Well written. Right on conclusions.
Jane, yes, I heard a lot about that story. Very sad case. I would, also, like to thank you and everyone else for your comments.
Thanks for the follow up. Everytime I read of an incident with a pit bull I think of the young woman that was killed by the pit bull in San Francisco several years ago. If you haven't heard the story, she walked out of her apartment building just as the owners and the pit bull were coming in. The dog, without warning, went for her throat and killed her. Subsequently, the owners were tried for murder in some degree. Can't rember if one or both were sentenced to prison or for how long. That was a real horror story. Thank God that this baby and mother were not killed.
Great reporting of this. Thanks!
I agree , the owner is totally responsible...thanks for the information in this great article
