Kirby Warden
In the comedy movie, What's the Worse that could Happen? Max's wife says, "Scandal and Disease...those are the deal breakers." While there have been no reports of disease coursing through Detroit's Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick there has certainly been plenty of scandal, from a steamy relationship with a woman outside of his marriage, to a lawsuit over the dismissal of the people who were responsible for making the affair public. The latest news out of Detroit concerning the scandalous affairs of Mayor Kilpatrick comes from his own lawyers who are now suing for lack of payment for services rendered. It might just be that Mayor Kilpatrick would like nothing more than to die of a disease right now to get out of the media spot light in Detroit.

The Mayor of Detroit might have been able to keep the affair with his Chief of Staff, Christine Beatty, secret if not for more than 14,000 text messages that she and Kilpatrick shared with each other. Furthermore, two security personnel had been investigating other misconduct that Mayor Kilpatrick had been accused of when they were suddenly fired from their positions. When the officers took the issue to court, they revealed Mayor Kilpatrick's affair with Beatty. Once questioned under oath about the affair, all Mayor Kilpatrick had to do was tell the truth. One thing led to another and Mayor Kilpatrick and Beatty both denied the affair and then the text messages were revealed. Suddenly almost $9,000,000 of Detroit tax money went towards a secret settlement with Kilpatrick. Samples of the text messages between Mayor Kilpatrick and Beatty can be found on Slate.com here.

The Detroit mayor's term of service has been a very colorful one. Kilpatrick has been accused of laying-off thousands of Detroit city workers so that he could higher family and friends then give them extraordinary pay increases. The Detroit Mayor has been accused of holding parties with strippers and even accused of being related to the murder of one of the strippers. Kilpatrick has been under fire for misuse of Detroit City funds. Even more allegations of misconduct, conspiracy, and scandal in Detroit can be found at Wikipedia.com here.

Things have become so bleak for the Mayor in Detroit, that the Governor of Michigan has reportedly begun to look into having Kilpatrick removed from office.

If all of that wasn't enough out of Detroit, the Mayor is now being sued for over $80,000 in unpaid legal fees, as reported by a Freep.com article found here.
