In an interview to MyFoxColorado.com, Debra Williams, Austin's former wife says that if she had "...spoken up sooner, maybe Nancy and her little boy would be alive today... that's why I'm going public now, something has to change!" Williams alleges that during her marriage to the well known "Stone Cold" that she saw him use steroids, and that he made her write a letter to authorities that stated that her complaints were "a mistake."
Debra Williams told MyFoxColorado.com that "The domestic and drug abuse is out of hand in the WWE and something needs to be done about it." Williams continued to say that "In the last ten years, 60 wrestlers under age 45 have died... all in the prime of their lives. Big strong men, who somehow die with little or no investigation of the organization that encourages performers to use muscle enhancing drugs."
These stories of drug abuse have been reported before says Fox News. They point to the high profile deaths of Eddie Guerrero who died in 2005 of an enlarged heart. A symptom and major side effect from years of steroid use. Another example that MyFoxColorado.com gives is that of Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig in 2003, his death also was ruled to be a drug overdose. Also the death in 2002 of the "British Bulldog," Davey Smith, his death was also ruled to be drug related, those drugs were said to be steroids by the coroner in the case.
When given these examples by MyFoxColorado.com, Debra Williams said that the stories of Nancy Benoit and her were very similar. They both dealt with the drug abuse and physical abuse in their marriages, both had sought to have protection provided for them because of the men that they loved. Debra Williams says in her case that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was given a years worth of probation, and that the judge in their case ordered her into a "gag order, forcing her to remain silent about the "dark side" of professional wrestling, filled with drugs, booze and domestic abuse."
It seems that more should be done to determine what is going on with these performers that are otherwise healthy strong individuals that all of a sudden die for whatever reason. Being able to determine the effects of these drugs on this particular group in society could go along way to truly determine the effect of some of these popular enhancing drugs.
