Skyn ICELAND Makes Gentle but Effective Products for Stressed Skin

L. Lee Scott
A while back I introduced you to a new-to-me skin care line called skyn ICELAND. This line includes a lot of the botanical ingredients I love, including Cloudberry seed oil (I had to look up cloudberries; they are a sub-arctic species of Rubus, like a raspberry or a mulberry - but colder), and pure glacial water from Iceland's many glaciers. Recently I've tried a few more of their products.

Getting personal for a moment, I have chronic fatigue syndrome and lupus, among other things you can figure out if you check my content out, and often at bedtime the thought of using a make-up remover (if I'm wearing any...), a cleanser, a toner, then treating and moisturizing my face seems like a task worthy of Hercules. Skyn ICELAND to the rescue with a pack of 30 Glacial Cleansing Cloths (that doesn't photograph well). These cloths remove make-up and cleanse your face with a few wipes, and don't need rinsing. Wow.

For nights when I'm feeling a little more alive, I tried the Glacial Face Wash, a creamy foaming wash that cleans all skin types. I've already described the cream cleanser, that you apply to dry skin then wipe off with a damp cloth. To use the Glacial Face Wash, you apply a little bit - about the size of a dime - to some water in your hands, work it into a lather, and massage into your face with a light circular motion, then rinse off. It makes your skin feel cooler, which is wonderful for hot summer nights or nights when my left cheek is flushing (don't ask; even my doctors can't figure that one out).

I'm always searching for the perfect Goldilocks moisturizer (not too light, not too heavy, not scented, etc. etc.), so I decided to give Skyn ICELAND's "the Antidote" a try. It's described as a Quenching Daily Lotion. It's light, but not too light, and has a fresh scent that isn't a perfume, but from the botanical ingredients. I can feel my thirsty skin sucking it in! I love it!

Because my (aging) skin is too sensitive for most retinol-containing anti-aging products, I decided to try skyn ICELAND's Arctic Brightening Serum (my skin is also less than bright from the winter weather. I'm not feeling bright at all!). I haven't been using it long enough to be certain that it's making my skin look younger and brighter, but it feels good on the skin (apply a small amount before moisturizer). Along with the usual skyn ICELAND ingredients, this contains Arctic Root, Siberian ginseng, and maral root, along with a gentle retinol derivative. Unlike other anti-aging serums I've tried with retinol, this product doesn't leave my skin feeling burned.

Finally, I got Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels. They come in a box of 6 pairs of eye gels, and I haven't tried them yet. I hope they work better than the other products I've tried to reduce eye puffiness, because sometimes I wake up with my eyes so puffy they look like little slits. I'm considering keeping these in the refrigerator for extra cooling. I'll let you know!

You can find these and other skyn ICELAND products at Sephora stores or the Sephora website ( www.sephora.com ) and at the sky ICELAND website ( www.skyniceland.com ). If you're a member of Haute Look, you may be able to buy them for less than the prices you see on those websites.
