This is a list of 15 sites I have personally checked out and within these sites are more than 100 links for your child. All appear to be child safe, but as a responsible parent, you are the one who should make the determination for your child.
1. http://yucky.discovery.com/flash/index.html
This site states that it is "the yuckiest site on the Internet" and it will be fascinating to elementary age kids. As you can probably tell from the name, it is part of the Discovery Channel and contrary to what the name implies, kids will learn a lot from this site while they are having fun.

These sites are part of the Kids Crossing site, which is connected to the National Center of Atmospheric Research and the University Corporation of Atmospheric Research. They are wonderful for older elementary children and pre-teens.
3. http://www.worldalmanacforkids.com/WAKI-Home.aspx
As the name states, this is part of the World Almanac and as such has many, many subjects for mid to older elementary children to enjoy learning about. Articles are written in an entertaining way for the age group and there are games on the site, as well.
4. http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/students/explore_by_topic/science_nature.html
Since this is part of the Smithsonian Institute, you can imagine what great information this site has for children. The site is geared for mid to older
elementary school and pre-teen ages and has articles, games, idea labs....the list goes on and on.
5. http://www.kidsbibleinfo.com/
This site states that its target audience is the 6-12 age group of children. The sections are: Lessons, Stories, Topics, and Fun Stuff. It is a great site for learning about the Bible.
6. http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/
This is a great site for elementary school age children and pre-teens. The name National Geographic says it all.
7. http://www.almanac4kids.com/index.php
This is not the same as the World Almanac for kids above-this is The Old Farmers Almanac for Kids. This site has something for kids of all ages. It is one of those sites where kids do not realize that they are learning because they are having so much fun.
8. http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forkids/home/index.html
The NASA site is a learning experience for ages 6 yrs old-teens and is one of the best on the Internet. Even adults can learn a few things on this site.
9. http://www.northvalley.net/kids/science.shtml
This is a collection of Internet sites about "science and math around the world". You will find more than 50 links for kids to have fun learning about unusual science subjects.
10. http://bensguide.gpo.gov/subject.html
This is a truly useful site that has a huge number of links to government sites for kids. Who knew our government has so many sites for children's education.
11. http://www.funology.com/index.htm
Having fun while learning is what this site is all about. There are countless activities for kids to do on the computer and otherwise. There is something for all elementary age school children and also for the "tweenies".
12. http://www.epa.gov/kids/science.htm
This is one of our tax dallars at work government sites. It will teach your child all about the environment and how to take care of it. There are projects, games, pictures, and stories.
13. http://www.hhmi.org/coolscience/
This is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute website. It has a number of projects for mid to older elementary age school children to "explore biology".
14. http://www.eurekalert.org/kidsnews/page.php?page=kidslinks
This is a great collection of links divided into the appropriate age groups. I sampled a few of the links and they have wonderful learning tools about science and other interesting subjects.
15. http://www.kids.gov/
This site has some information and links not listed on #10 or # 12. It is also a great site for kids of all ages and paid for by your tax dollars.
