More Than Just Football: Counting Down the Most Memorable Super Bowl Commercials

Morningstar
To tell the truth, I just figured out football this past year. The other 19 years of my life, football has been a confusing, worthless sport to me. The only thing I remember about the Super Bowl is the commercials.

Realistically, I should remember the ads, after all the money that is spent on them. CNN Money reported that a 30-second ad in 2007 cost $2.6 million! Now I shall recall the Top 5 Most Memorable Ads over the year.

1. The Joy of Cola Pepsi commercials. I can still hear the jingle. At first, the commercial featured a curly haired little girl who later went on to play Helen Keller. Later on, the commercials were revamped, featuring a navel-bearing Britney Spears.

2. 3-D Doritos, circa 1998. I remember the commercial much better than I remember the actual product. The commercial depicted a woman at a laundromat, catching flying Doritos in her mouth. Crunch. Crunch.

3. Pets.com. These ads featured a googly eyed sock puppet dog who ran around with a microphone in hand. The dog was voiced by the now-famous Michael Ian Black from VH1 I Love the... and Sierra Mist commercial fame. Pets.com was a staple as one of the first big websites that advertised nationally; however the company is now defunct. The domain now belongs to PetSmart.

4. Budweiser Whassup?! These featured a few guys who repeatedly said whassup? to each other in various tones. Really, looking back, I have no clue what the appeal of these commercials was. They are truly obnoxious.

5. The Ameriquest commercial where a dad is in the hospital and the doctor shocks a fly. The wife and daughter are coming to visit when they hear the doctor, referring to the fly, say "That killed him." The expression on the little girl's face is priceless. To this day, I have no clue what Ameriquest does; in fact, I had to look up the commercial to even know what company did the stint, but this commercial still cracks me up.
