More Than a Woman

Li Roman
I am not the Angry Black Woman.

I am a sister, a daughter, a mother, a lover, a friend.

I am a healer of boo-boo's, a curer of owies.

I am a shoulder to cry on, a refuge for broken spirits.

I am a therapist, a sympathetic listener for the downtrodden.

I am a devoted girlfriend, a compassionate wife.

I am so much more than how the media portrays me.

I do not snap my fingers and roll my neck.

I do not throw tantrums when I don't get my way.

I do not take my anger out on the world when I have a bad day.

I do not let any man degrade me or make me feel less of a woman.

I do not take mess from anyone, does that make me a bitch?

I do not hold my tongue, does that make me rude?

I do not hide my sexuality, does that make me loose?

My shoulders bear the weight of more worlds than my own.

My eyes cries tears for more hardships than my own.

My ears hear more secrets than my own.

My lips speak more truths than my own.

I am more than a woman.

I am a protector.

I am a teacher.

I am a healer.

I am a counselor.

I am love.

Beautiful. There is definitely more to a woman than what we see at first.
