Part X and Y

John Smither
Daddy, why can't we go to the theme park?

You know it will be fun, a lark

Asked his eldest daughter, Sam

Cause you promised, I'm so wanting to go, I am

I said one day, he retorted, just not this

No go do as I said, look after your little sis

Mr W, he so wanted a son

So far amongst his offspring, he had none

He blamed his wife (in his opinion) for not doing it right

When questioned about it he'd get so uptight

Sam continued with her nagging, why not? Why?

You might get to like it too, if you just give it a try

You would have taken them if they were boys

Even helping them out with their new toys

It's cause you had problems with your X and Y

His wife added loudly, that's the real reason why

I had often felt that I had a book inside me ready to be written (many of us have I know), well it has been but now I need to get it published. Until recently I never knew I could write poems, that is my nex...  View profile

It is funny until I think about it a bit. Well written though.

Very cute...but aren't daughters better anyway?

That's clever, as you can find new things in the poem with each reading.

Funny & clever, yet a little sad too. Enjoyed it! Happy Easter.

A clever, but sad poem. A father should cherish his daughters.

That is so cute and humorous! I have only daughters and my youngest use to watch the news once a week when they featured a segment called "Wednesday's Child" about adopting kids in the Boston area! She would listen intently to the segment, especially if it was a boy needing a home! Then she would beg me to call and adopt a boy for her. She wanted a brother all her life. Well, she didn't get one, but she has two sons now so she is all set!

makes one think ... even parents have preferences (and by extension, they discriminate sometimes between theirs sons and daughters). Well-done; enjoyed!
