Morgantown, WV, Might Be the Most Friendly City in America

Jason Gallagher
Having seen many different cities throughout the course of my life, I have to say that Morgantown, West Virginia is the friendliest American city I have ever visited, let alone lived in for a short time. The general mentality of the people I experienced in Morgantown is something that will stick with me for the rest of my years. This is just my point of view, though I am sure many other folks think the same of this city. Of course college fans will realize that Morgantown is home to West Virginia University. While WVU and its' University Health Associates are by far and away the most recognizable face of the city, a number of corporations and facilities call Morgantown home.

The first thing that pops into everyone's mind when you mention a college town is kids running amuck. While that may be true to some extent, as the inexperience of youth dictates many unusual decisions (and clothing choices for that matter), the students are generally pleasant young men and women to be around. The real treasure of this West Virginia city is the people that call it home. Morgantown, WV is full of delightful people; they are friendly, courteous, and generous. The best example is when driving in traffic, instead of sitting there unmoving for thirty minutes; the locals are content to filter in every other car. Every other car! That sums up the personality of the city, relax and your turn will come.

Mainly due to the University and Hospitals, Morgantown West Virginia is home to several hotels. Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, and Super 8 all have hotels in the city or reasonably close by. Dining options abound, as they do in any college town, as just about every fast food chain is here: McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Chik-Fil-A, and Arby's are represented. Sit down restaurants are great options as well with Garfield's, Applebee's, Bob Evans, Damon's Grill and more. This is one town you will not go hungry inn, or lack for a place to stay.

As far as things to do, there are several tours, museums, theaters, and malls ready to help you fill the day. As and added treat, there are several state parks close by that offer some impressive views and breath taking hikes. Since Morgantown, WV is located very near the intersection of Interstates 79 and 68, this gem of a town is the perfect stopping point for destinations to the North or South. So please do yourself a favor, and check out Morgantown, West Virginia.
