According to the CDC, Morgellons (also referred to as Unexplained Dermopathy) is an "unexplained skin condition which some refer to as "Morgellons." Persons who suffer from this unexplained skin condition report a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting and stinging sensations; granules, threads, fibers, or black speck-like materials on or beneath the skin; and/or skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores). In addition to skin manifestations, some sufferers also report fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss, joint pain, and changes in vision" (source).
The Morgellons Research Foundation is at the forefront of Morgellons disease research of Morgellons symptoms. The Morgellons Research Foundation was originally formed when a child suffered from a then-unnamed syndrome that his mother calls Morgellons disease. According to the Morgellons Research Foundation's website, it's "dedicated to raising awareness and research funding for [Morgellons disease], which can be disfiguring and disabling, and affects people of all age groups including an increasing number of children."

Serious efforts are finally now underway to characterize the dermal-related material that should solve part of the puzzle."
