The latest diet fad sweeping Japan, the Morning Banana Diet, gained its popularity on Mixi, a Japan social networking site. The enthusiasm of the network members boosted the Morning Banana Diet and has pushed its popularity into the Japanese Media. Many books are articles are being written about this weight loss method and many celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon of weight loss.

The Japanese Morning Banana Diet craze has benefited another Asian country. In the Philippines, the Morning Banana Diet has created a demand for export of Philippine bananas which Japanese women love. The Philippines are now the top exporter of bananas for the Morning Banana Diet fad. In 2007 around $400 million in banana exports went to Japan. The morning Banana Diet is a spin off of the banana diet of the past as well as the grapefruit and cabbage diets which many have tried.

The Morning Banana Diet has its own web page with a supporting forum for those who are on the diet. The site is located at www.morningbanana.com. The rules of the diet are listed on the site. The general premise of the diet is to have a Morning Banana for breakfast and nothing else other than water. The water must be room temperature water, not iced and not hot. Nothing else is eaten for breakfast. If you need more than one banana it is ok to have more but you should not eat more than needed. The other main rule for the Morning Banana Diet is that you should eat dinner before 8 pm. Six pm is best, but no food should be eaten after 8 PM.

The Morning Banana Diet craze in Japan has been so wide spread there is a banana shortage. The popular diet food has prompted many banana products to reach the market, like banana flavored chocolate bars, banana donut mixes, and other sweet banana flavored foods loaded in calories which seem to defeat the purpose of the Morning Banana Diet.

Fad diets have been around for years and this one pay pass as soon as others. However, if you are serious about losing weight, the rules of this diet are wise ones. Even if you do not eat bananas or following all of the Morning Banana diet rules, if you follow the ones that say only eat until you are full, not stuffed and only eat until 6 or 8PM your chances of losing weight are much greater.
